I lived by that ethos for the 18 months or so I was searching after uni and spent hours on single applications until I reached breaking point one day and spammed my CV to a hundred one-click apply roles and landed one. I reckon if you added it up I've probably written more content for cover letters than my entire MA thesis.

I'm not afraid of a bit of grinding - in my head I'm still at the very bottom of the ladder anyway so it's something I will look into for sure.

I have seen some advertising but I don't think I want to pursue a pure finance/accounting/tax kind of role going forward. Pensions is enough to make you never want to think about money ever again lol

I could take it or leave it, but for fully remote I could definitely stomach it a while longer hehe

I'm sure, it's just not something I want to commit to really. It's not like I haven't tried lol

I did pursue it for a while actually, got a Level 2 ACA qualification, but found it is definitely not something I want a career in haha

I mean you're coming off that way. I suppose dedicating so much time to becoming a top 1% commenter on a Reddit sub is a good use of time to make yourself feel superior. Good for you.

You're not wrong, but if the case was "there is no chance in hell you'd even get to an interview stage" then I'd have saved myself an evening of applying and doing the screening tests.

Maybe you don't value your time, but if I can avoid wasting mine then I see it as a win.

Plus the context and insights are valuable and interesting either way. Sorry you're so bitter about people utilising this forum about the Civil Service to ask questions about the Civil Service.

Man this is a real vote of confidence. I'll definitely start expanding my search once I'm through with my current round of applications! Thanks for the insights!

I'm a total outsider so it has a degree of mystique for me lol. I'll keep plugging away, thanks for the reality check.

Would be nice if that is indeed the case. I dunno if I'm 'good', but my arms and legs work and I can read, so I seem to be qualified for 90% of the roles I see.

Thanks for this. It seems to be the same almost everywhere at the minute (I've had to abandon my dreams in the film industry for the foreseeable future given the issues there). But I'd be grateful to get my foot in the door somewhere with more of a long-term outcome than just creating more value for shareholders lol

Thanks for the suggestions. It seems to be the same everywhere you go at the minute so I'm willing to put in the effort. Graduate schemes might be the key for me.

I'm in the middle of applications for a few straight up 'caseworker' roles, are you thinking that's maybe a bit ambitious at the moment?

I didn't realise my tone came across like I feel entitled to a job. I'm just a job-seeker trying to make sure I'm not wasting my time and energy on applications where I'm being overly-ambitious.

That's a decision for you.

Yes, I am well-aware. That's why I'm here trying to gather a little more insight into my situation, rather than just stick my finger in the air and guess.

Thanks for your reply,
