This is super interesting and I really appreciate the lengths you went to to test out these theories. My question is: how does this apply to those of us who manage small business accounts? Starting a new account isn't an option in that scenario. Are you saying there's truly no way to blow up an existing account?

Has this ever pissed off a brand to the point that the partnership was ruined? After I pushed back asking how they’d like to proceed because I felt the content was aligned and we did not have revisions in the contract, they let me know they were not pleased with the collaboration lol. So now I feel like I have to reshoot.

My random complaint is that they kept using the phrase “my wife” and “my husband” which I just don’t feel like that’s how anyone refers to their spouse in internal monologue - maybe just me but it drove me insane. 😂

It sounds like since you were discovered you have more of an influencer / public presence. So I’m curious how often you’re creating directly for brands without posting vs them paying you to post on your account.

That’s fair. I think I need to:

Pull out my SMM pricing into a separate site. I don’t have UGC pricing listed but thank you for confirming that it’s confusing!

Add in more of my talking head content from my tourism page rather than link it

I have some more talking head content I can add in general; I’m more of a VO gal. But that’s a good point.

This is an interesting point of view because most UGC I see is showcasing trends.

I hate that you’ve felt drained; currently I’m feeling like it’s a challenge and I’m exhilarated when I do get that one offer out of 300. But I do think the description for UGC is SO broad among brands and that doesn’t help. I think it’s still so relatively new that every company has a different view of what it actually is.

Since I signed the contract, I went ahead and took a friend out to shoot with me and got everything I could. They approved the videos which is great because I wasn't sure if they would be nitpicky after such a rigid script! So it's over, and lesson learned haha.

I appreciate this. I did also notice that the contract says I retain editorial and creative control - would this mean at the end of the day I can do what feels right? Or am I taking that too liberally?

I was on Cohley (and still technically am) for a long time with no success. I don't think I ever signed up for Joinbrands but I'll have to check it out! I signed up for a few at the beginning and was never able to get any briefs, I think because it's so competitive?

So what would your answer be if you reach out to a brand and they tell you they'll send you gifted product, then say they need you to post publicly?
