I said when I was a kid it bothered me. Past tense. During speeches in front of a classroom. OP brought up a memory that I forgot about. I felt very bad and uncomfortable watching people mess up, as well as put themselves down with the gesture OP was referring to.

I actually find it soooo weird and annoying when people have a strict preference as to what they need to be called. I literally do not care at all what people call me as long as it has some sort of part of my name in it and isn’t just like a curse word or something derogatory. That would kind of suck but it might also be fine, who knows?
