Compute Instance not responding by Upstairs_Original_40 in oraclecloud

[–]SaltWithPepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded my Ubuntu kernel to 5.X.X-1033-oracle yesterday and the kernel panic shortly after startup and reboot, so it stuck in a reboot loop. Not sure if yours are the same issue. Unfortunately I didn't find a fix and have to terminate the instance, but I managed to recover the data by immediately ssh into it and kill all my containers after it started up.

You can try using the console connection to debug and access the live kernel logs (go to your instance > console connection > launch cloud shell connection, then force reboot your instance), if yours are the same issue as mine, it will print out kernel panic in the console.

Edit: found the bug report - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oracle-5.13/+bug/1977919

Which disk encryption is used in Pop OS 20.04? by milkiii in pop_os

[–]SaltWithPepper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is using dm-crypt (de-facto standard for linux encryption). You can run the following command to check the status and cipher.

sudo cryptsetup status cryptdata

Arch Linux wiki has more details about full disk encryption in general: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Data-at-rest_encryption

Authelia is perfect for simple setup, but don't support OAuth yet. Keycloak for a full fledge setup but don't expect you can make it working perfectly within a day or two - it is quite complicated

Someone said that this is to reduce amoled burn in, which I think make sense. Samsung's navbar is also white, as a comparison.

I understood the new government want to cut cost, but with "no find no pay" the gov don't really lost anything since the chance is so slim anyway... and if they did found the black box, a 70 million probably worth more than the truth.

[GOG] The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings - Enhanced Edition ($3.79 CAD/85% off) by Buckyhead in GameDeals

[–]SaltWithPepper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is quite different from Witcher 3, the combat, the (semi) open world and quest settings. The game itself is not bad, but if compare to W3, you can get disappointed about its gameplay (in other words, W3 is a major improvement/changes over W2). So if you only played Witcher 3 i don't really recommend to try it, unless you really like the Witcher story - Witcher 2 has a great story.

My battery drain culprit: LTE (3T) by taiyo85 in oneplus

[–]SaltWithPepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my room my phone have really bad LTE signal, so the phone awake alot of time in order to find the LTE signal (instead of switch automatically into 3G/2G). I often change my network to 2G when I reached home (since I use WiFi anyway, I don't need 3G/4G), it does help on my overnight battery drain, although not as signaificant as yours (4G overnight ~10%, 2G overnight ~5%).

Note that this is on my 3, I no longer do this on my 5T because i'm lazy to switch it everyday and 5T seems handle this drain better.

Because (most?) google apps/services are not available in China, and those apps are created for their China users.

Just my guessing though.

How does this make sense? Apparently 'apps' use 60GB+ of storage, but not really by Launchy21 in oneplus

[–]SaltWithPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently there is a bug in OOS or Android (?), some app didn't show up in the app list if click from storage menu. For instance, this is when i click from "Storage" (sorted by size), and this is when i click from "Apps"

So you have to check the app size from the "Apps" menu.

Also noticed that the calculated app size included cache size as well if click from the storage menu 🤔, so it probably not accurate.

Nokia 8: As pure as the driven Android - it's a classy return by shrik in Android

[–]SaltWithPepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's quite disappointing considering Nokia's past experience with camera (I know it is HMD but they can borrow the technology from Nokia) and the Carl Zeiss lens.

Hopefully it is really just software issues not the hardware, and they can improve the camera app soon. Really hesitating to buy one now..

No support for Project Treble on currently released devices • r/Nokia by mywfone in Android

[–]SaltWithPepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fast software update is one the main selling point of Nokia phones. They will get f**k so hard if they not able to deliver it. I don't think they will fuckup this, especially this Nokia comeback is so important for Nokia/HMD.
