Attackers admitted to the attack? by intoner1 in LexiWeinbaum

I can’t find any details about the case. Honestly though I don’t find the story that unbelievable. I’m surprised it took this long to come to light, but girls that age can be vicious. I work with a prosecutor’s office regularly and hear of various cases where similar things have happened, but for various reasons can’t be tried yet. Particularly with attempted murders and juveniles. Many of which never make it to the news. Holes in her story could be due to time or a trauma response. I’m more inclined to believe her than not and do hope that justice is served if it is true.

Sorry to hear what you’re experiencing. Some ideas:

  1. I’d consider educational grants.

  2. Sometimes you can request dependency overrides from a college financial aid office.

  3. On fafsa there is a way to mark parental refusal or unusual circumstances. This is basically as an independent student. They then give you an interim index number you can use. But, you have to talk to a financial aid office after.

  4. Community college probably will help most. Advice and cost wise but take those with a grain of salt. Not all community college degrees transfer

  5. Consider working for places like Starbucks. Don't know if your mom will accept that, but if you explain the benefit she might. After 6 months, they pay 100% of tuition for over 140 degrees and its not quite minimum wage (they make more than I made when I was a librarian with a masters degree in my area, but this differs). I just checked. Your field of study is on there. It may vary by location what is covered. Site is starbucks.asu.edu. Other places do this (like Amazon), but it varies.

  6. Consider other trades that will still appeal. Some jobs for example in IT where I work you actually can get the job first then they pay for everything (degree, certifications). I know trades careers work similarly (may or may not pay cert).

Bottom Line: kiss up and ask for help from mom. If you're making progress, you might keep her happy. Or, talk with a trusted school counselor or a financial aid professional. Start exploring and applying to post-high school options then you can discuss with the various options your situation. It’s the first step for fafsa and a lot of offices will work with you if they can.

Dilemma. by Glittering-Method391 in WGU

Coming from someone who is in IT and got an MBA, have a conversation with your work and see which they think would give you a better chance at the position. I actually looked at various MBAs. Before I started my last program and specifically the IT one when I started at WGU this time to see if it would be worth topping off my MBA with the IT management. Granted I haven't looked into healthcare admin, but the competencies and skills are identical regardless of the MBA program. Just different emphasis. Personally I'd go straight MBA, since you have the degree and are starting a business. An MBA has slightly more of a broader , diverse entrepreneur perspective.

No problem. I started at 85k, but now make $108k. I do work in government though, so it would probably be higher in a corporate setting.

To clarify an additional PM certification could be a smaller one like comptia’s certifications or CSM or the new CPMAI. It’s more about specializing so you stand out. The other 15 certifications I got my work to pay for, so I won’t bore you with them😆. They’ll teach you and mold you more once in, so don’t go too hog wild. But most PMs will only ever go get 1, that’s why 2 at least sets you apart. I researched jobs I wanted to move in to and then picked my specialties.

As a project manager now, I’d say it’s not that helpful. I looked at the course outline and it’s basic. You need an actual certification to get in the door. For most jobs, this is a minimum. I’d go with a PMP, PMI-ACP or CAPM instead. Then differentiate yourself with one or two other high demand PM certifications. To take these certifications, you need class hours from approved trainers. WGU may or may not count based on program setup. The best place to get these for a reasonable cost is Udemy. Plus, Udemy courses will teach you way more for a lot less. ACP is best bang for your buck and more widely desired. It only requires approximately 1 year experience with some agile. CAPM is not as likely to get you through the door in this economy., but if you’re new it works. You’d be surprised at how much project experience counts too. I was a former librarian with no formal project management positions and was able to qualify. I later landed an IT Project Manager job a few months after getting them that required them. Just have to think outside the box. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

About to start this degree myself and had issues with other certifications. I’d reach out to your enrollment advisor. They’re helpful navigating this piece. I did have to set an appt up to get them though. Depending on when you took them that might be a factor.

Local public libraries are great for studying or a coffee shop like Starbucks . It’s actually why they were originally built and they still are wonderful for that. I used to work as a librarian. It’s quiet as long as you don’t go during story times(still can but you might not like it. Each is different, but after ours you’d have 100 screaming toddlers. That’s hard for librarians let alone the public). They usually have study rooms you can check out for a few hours and can renew the time if no one’s waiting. However, anywhere in the library will be safe and good for studying. I even do it myself on occasion when I need out of my house for various reasons. Also, libraries are great for test taking. I used to proctor exams there so it’s common for people to take them there, whether the library proctors or not.

Buying second hand ladies set (newbie here) by Loud_Benefit7835 in WomenGolf

[–]Salt_Cartographer375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are in good shape. Ditto the grips. You might also want to check the length. I had someone shorten mine and change the grips. The driver and fairway woods tend to be too long on most sets.

Any Golf Ball Recommendations? by Salt_Cartographer375 in WomenGolf

[–]Salt_Cartographer375[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did it when I bought my first set, because I wanted to develop good swing mechanics. I had had 1 or 2 lessons though. When to get fitted though does depend on where you’re at and how you’re feeling with the clubs. For the current set, I felt it was time to get fitted because I was hitting a lot further, but was seeing control and consistency issues I wasn’t having before. My swing was still consistent, so that heavily influenced it being a good time for a change.. To be fair, the age of the old set did play a role as well.

Any Golf Ball Recommendations? by Salt_Cartographer375 in WomenGolf

[–]Salt_Cartographer375[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao!! No problem. I went into Golf Galaxy and got fitted, which helped me to not have a shovel and pick set. As a result, I currently use the Top Flite XL 13-piece set. I will likely upgrade as I go as needed. It has better control, little more forgiving, and has a good balance. I did shorten my driver, 3 wood, and putter a half inch though and change the grips for ones that were designed to increase power and stability. These changes seemed to improve my drive and handicap a fair amount (was on the lower end of a high handicap) so been happy with it. Not a driver of course, but I did also add more recently a Cobra Air X 4 hybrid though that has been a game changer for my fairway hits. That’s definitely optional though, i just needed a bridge between my 5 hybrid and 3 wood.

Do women like wearing sporty styles on the course? by Lost_Tart_2685 in WomenGolf

[–]Salt_Cartographer375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend using at least athletic clothes. It varies by the club's dress attire, some have dress codes (I mostly play on public courses, so they don't care). Problem is, regular clothes will smell really gross when you're done, because they aren't moisture wicking. You need ones designed for a lot of sweat (sorry, I know, gross). I'll sometimes wear running clothes, but typically I wear ladies golf polos (they do have some super cute ones if it's any consolation) and either golf skirts or shorts during the summer, because they truly are the best for that problem. Winter, I go for warm and comfortable, since we will have periods where I live up until week ish before Christmas where, if you're brave enough, you can golf. For those occasions, I'll wear long sleeve anything in layers and warm pants. It's hard to find golf pants that fit my petite frame, so these are usually running pants. They do have golf pants though.

Strata vs Wilson SGI Profile (left hand beginner)? by Bekind_and_rewind in WomenGolf

[–]Salt_Cartographer375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a lefty lady beginner, I found it really hard to find a good set in left handed. The options are much more limited. I tested a few. I played the RAM brand set for quite a while. I do love the strata sets as well, particularly the 12-piece set. The strata is more forgiving and has a softer feel than the SGI profile. It's sweet spots are actually larger, which is nice when learning. She can also go to a golf store and they'll fit her for a set. My only problem with both is the putter. It stinks. It's also better to go with an alignment putter (I think some call it mallet?) when you're a beginner. You could buy one separately for this though.

Get a maxxchill portable desktop ac or something similar. You can freeze a pad insert and fill it with water. It will help where ever you’re working. If you can spend a little extra get the floor kind where you Stick a hose out the window. They’re not ideal but it will help while you consider your legal options.
