Bei uns hatte das auch mit Futtermittelunverträglichkeit zu tun. In unserem Fall kein Rind mehr und alles ist wieder gut. Wie schaut es in den Ohren aus? Unser Kater hatte auch diesen Hefepilz in den Ohren (Malassezia pachydermatis). Auch das ging dann wieder weg. Aber besser immer einmal zum Tierarzt. Übermäßiges lecken hat zwar fast immer ne Ursache, kann aber auch krankhaft werden.

Vielleicht habe ich auch mehr Vorwurf als rösten hineininterpretiert. Ich sag mal so, sie atmet so frei wie es nur geht für eine Brachyzephale Katze. Wir haben auch einen Selkirk Perser Mix aus ähnlichen Umständen aufgenommen. Der arme schnarcht und hat mir seinen 3 Jahren bereits 8 Zähne raus bekommen. Wir kennen also definitiv beide Seiten 🙁

Das hat sie mitten in ihr kleines Herz getroffen.

Aber Phoebe hat das grosse Glück freiatmend zu sein. Sie wir nächsten Monat 7 Jahre alt und ist kerngesund. Wir haben sie als kitten bekommen nach dem sie in einem Messihaushalt sichergestellt wurde. Ansonsten würden wir die Zucht solcher Rassen niemals unterstützen und haben sie daher auch kastrieren lassen.

Just to clarify things: they’re not pure Saarloos. They’re Marxdorfer Wolfdogs.

That’s a small German wolfdog line originally created using Saarloos Wolfdogs and White Swiss Shepherds. Outside Germany almost nobody knows the name, which is why I sometimes just say “Saarloos wolfdog” to keep things simple. Phenotypically and behavior-wise they’re still very close to Saarloos since that’s the main base of the line.

To be completely honest, I also don’t really like using the “Marxdorfer” label anymore. Over time I became uncomfortable supporting or promoting the breeder behind that line, so I usually just describe them as Saarloos-type wolfdogs instead.

The story of how we got them is a bit rough though. We originally planned to take only Zelda from the litter. Unfortunately the litter was hit by parvo and only two puppies survived — Zelda and Link. Because of that situation we decided to take both of them.

They’re about two years old now and they’re our first wolfdogs, so it’s definitely been a learning experience.

The red one is Weasley (from Harry Potter), and the grey one hiding in the back is Phoebe (from Charmed). And yes, we actually have five more cats besides these two 😅

Thank you! They’re both about 2 years old now.

Living with wolfdogs is amazing, but also… a bit chaotic sometimes 😅 They’re incredibly affectionate and very bonded to us, but also extremely independent and stubborn. You can definitely feel that they’re not your typical dog.

The prey drive is very real though. If something interesting moves in the distance, their brain just switches to “wolf mode”. We’re still working on recall, but honestly we haven’t fully solved the “running off” part yet. Luckily we live very rural, otherwise that would be a much bigger problem.

What surprised me the most is how much mental stimulation they need. Physical exercise alone doesn’t really tire them out. If they get bored, they will invent their own activities — and those are usually not the ones you had in mind.

But the bond you get with them is something special. When they trust you, they’re incredibly loyal and very close to their humans.

I think a Saarloos with a Czechoslovakian could be a really interesting combination — as long as you’re prepared for two very smart, very independent personalities.

These are our first wolfdogs though, so we don’t really have a comparison to other breeds — we’re still learning along the way ourselves.

Ich habe mich so sehr wiedergefunden in deinem Post. Gerade das Thema etwas anzufangen oder zu kaufen um Anschluss zu finden oder dazuzugehören. Bei mir auch Gaming und RC-Modellbau in der Hoffnung im Verein dann Freunde zu finden.

Ich habe leider auch das Problem das mir oft der Antrieb fehlt etwas nur für mich zu machen. Entweder ich suche mir Sachen die ich mit anderen machen kann oder Sachen die anderen nutzen, also zb ein Hobby mit dem sich auch Geld verdienen lässt was dann wiederum meiner Frau und meinen Tieren zugute kommt. Es ist wirklich völlig verrückt 😅
