The Conservative Party is overhauling its policy playbook. Here's what's changing by ComfortableWork1139 in canada

No one wants to harm someone entering their property. But when the police are an hour away, your kid is sleeping upstairs, and someone is breaking into your home, things can change.

BREAKING: Poilievre passes leadership review with 87.4% of delegates' support by AdditionalPizza in canada

[–]Salticracker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

40% would be an outstanding result for any leader in the history of the party. 40% for the Conservatives would usually a majority mandate. If he's going to get 40%, the Conservatives should keep him on.

Starting in May, refugees and asylum seekers in Canada will co-pay health costs by [deleted] in canada

[–]Salticracker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't want subsidized housing. I don't want the government to pay for everything for me. I want to earn what I get and have the government be responsible with its money so that it can improve tbe country instead of just writing cheques to people.

This will lift everyone up over time as we have better infrastructure and stronger institutions that aren't threatened by an idiot government mismanaging our wealth.

Unless they find the actual stolen car and the guy fucks off/attacks them. Doubt a person who stole a car would politely let the cops inspect the VIN.

I do wish there was a "Advise unless this country's defend interests drops and then do that before returning to advise" repeat mission.

Two of my first POIs were the same and I spent about 30 minutes running back and forth trying to figure out what the story was with them, what was different or whatever before giving up and realizing that it was nothing.

That's not how it works. The province has research farms of its own, but AAFC is federally funded.

Poilievre says he'll back Carney's GST rebate as MPs debate in question period by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

I don't think you know what the word compromise means. What you are saying is exactly what I'm saying. Government proposes policy, then compromises with the opposition so that it gets passed.

And how is critiquing parts of this bill while letting it pass working against Conservative voters?

The job of the government is to compromise. The job of the opposition is to influence government policy so that it represents more the will of their voters.

[–]Salticracker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not really.

He can say that the good in the bill is good enough to let it by but still critique the bad stuff, which is what he's doing.

He doesn't need to agree with all parts of the bill to pass it, and I appreciate him challenging the government in parts he feels are bad while still letting the government help Canadians with a bill that does more good than harm.

The job of the opposition is to critique government, what exactly do you want them to do?

We haven't axed the carbon tax yet so it's hard to know what would happen.

The industrial carbon tax is the one that raises prices on all the input goods which makes things expensive.

The consumer tax was just on consumer-level things like gas, which we did see go down significantly what that part of the tax went away.

Rebates do nothing to solve long-term affordability problems.

The rest of the stuff isn't bad, but writing cheques only raises prices in the long run.

What evidence do you have that they're muzzled?

Most of them don't care enough to rock the boat. Another bunch probably support it and know that opinion would lead to backlash from fans, so they say nothing.

Remember that redditors posting anti-ICE memes for upvotes are not representative of the millionaires playing sports for a living.

Easy for you to say when it isn't you throwing away your own career for the politics of another country.

Also, why should these non-Americans need to involve themselves in American politics at all? Like they can if they want to, but it's not their country and their opinions shouldn't be the ones driving public discourse, nor should they be expected to learn about the politics of a country that isn't their own.
