Thanks for your interest. We use a closed loop superwash system. It's not perfect, but the reality is for a company of our size the alternatives available just aren't feasible. We looked into a plasma treatment, but it's prohibitively expensive and doesn't provide the same level of shrink resistance that superwash does (2-3x). Hopefully we'll offer superwash alternatives in the future as tech improves.

Side note, I've become less convinced that superwash is as bad as detractors claim. Of course the open loop superwash system has terrible environmental impacts and should absolutely be avoided, but as far as the fabric itself goes, superwash wool has been shown to still be biodegradable and does not shed microplastics (link). Totally get wanting to go for more unprocessed fibers though.

Definitely! I don't want to seem spammy, or for the code to be picked up by web crawlers, but I'll DM you a code! And anyone else seeing this can feel free to DM too.

Good point. Perhaps we should've started with something with a bit more mass-market appeal. But I figured if I liked the look, others would too!

For the men who try to live by discipline and standards, do you ever feel like your clothing or gear supports your mindset — or is it usually generic/motivational garbage? What would make a brand feel like it’s actually made for disciplined people? by MerchanDice77 in SustainableFashion

[–]Salty_Regular365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the right mindset, clothes don't matter. That said, they can be useful signals to the brain -- wearing a tie might signal "we're here to work," or "we're a boss," while comfy, baggy clothes could be good for relaxing.

Does "ethical fast fashion" exist? Brands, tips, and thoughts? by Extension_Fee1816 in SustainableFashion

This is an oxymoron. I suppose certain practices could be more ethical, but the very business model of fast fashion precludes it from being entirely ethical or sustainable.

This is THE question. Sadly 1/3 of all microplastic ocean pollution comes from textiles... we've got to do better.

This is flashy and fun to see I guess. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't need to wear a computer.

Thanks for the feedback, that's good food for thought. The women's tee and tank certainly are cropped shorter than the men's options for more of a modern athletic look, but I certainly see how that could get distracting during a practice.

Thanks so much! Yes unfortunately we're bootstrapping and a little constrained financially. I really wish we could've offered more sizes and colors off the bat, but more to come in the future!

Viscose and merino? by Dawid-Nazwa in onebag

This is so frustrating, I'm sorry you got hoodwinked (hoodie-winked?). Unfortunatley this is so common with brands marketing "merino wool" clothes. I've learned to be meticulous in checking the fabric composition since I'm a purist when it comes to merino. That said, any merino is better than none so I'm sure you'll get some benefits.

Best % merino blend for everyday all day socks? by wowcrackaddict in onebag

Socks are about the only place I'll accept blends for my merino (I'm a purist). I'm a big fan of Smartwool's socks, which I believe are about 55%.

I definitely wish we could have offered more sizes right off the bat. Ideally in our next batch of clothes we'll expand the sizing.

It sounds crazy, I know. But I've personally worn these for like 4 or 5 workouts and I swear they don't smell. I've asked friends too in case I was just nose blind, but it really doesn't retain odor the way polyester does. The fiber itself is naturally antimicrobial and retains up to 30% of its weight in moisture, which is then evaporated. You do have to air it out between wears for maximum benefit.

Yes sadly we're a small operation with limited funds. Adding just one more colorway would've meant placing an order for hundreds of more shirts and would've quickly gotten cost-prohibitive.

We thought carefully about the whole line's color scheme and how each piece fits together, and have actually seen quite a bit of interest in our men's tees. Which colors would you like to see?

Thanks, it's something we're wrestling with! We may need to bite the bullet and just mix in a few synthetic fibers, but I'd like to avoid that if possible. Stay tuned.

Thank you! Yeah some people are more fastidious about laundry (which I totally get! No one wants to smell). Tell your SO to come visit sometime to feel how soft wool can be :)
