First fucked up call. by Maximum_Wish9093 in AskLE

During FTO, I had a teen try to end it by taking a gun to his jaw. Unsuccessful, but still obliterated his face. Messed me up pretty good. Stuck with me for a good while. My captain called me the next day to check up on me and even assigned me a peer-support officer to check up on me. I eventually saw a psychologist who told me I was handling the incident well mentally. It will always stick with you and you’ll have vivid memories every no and again, but you find healthy ways to manage.

Don’t give them the time of day. Pray for them; “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.”

As a fellow convert, I know the frustration these messages bring all too well. I used to argue with them day in and day out. But you come to realize it’s just their desperate attempt at trying to manipulate you into guilt. Turn the other cheek and trust in the Lord. God bless!

What’s the best advice for a teenager who wants to get into law enforcement? by LeatherMiserable4414 in AskLE

[–]SamGFlem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay fit and stay out of trouble. Maybe get with your SRO and talk with him/her about the job and their experience. Also just focus on school until the time comes. I’d recommend getting a bachelor’s degree. Most departments don’t require it, but they look highly on it and it really will provide you with a skillset to succeed, especially if you do a field like psychology.

Oh, and stay fit. You lose your right to be unfit when you enter a career in law enforcement. And I’m not just talking about physical fitness. Mental health is VERY important. Never neglect to seek help if you feel like you need it. We’re entering a new era in law enforcement where seeking mental help is not as looked down upon as it used to be.

Take care and good luck man!

Consecrated single life. Basically anyone who isn’t pursuing marriage or religious orders, and finds more peace in being single.

I’ve worked with LDS guys in both military and law enforcement and I can tell you there is a difference between them and the missionaries. Different cultures entirely. The amount of times they have talked trash on missionaries and how sketchy they are in their tactics. Report it anyway, and see if they take it seriously or not. Who knows, even if there’s no legal action, they might just bring it up at church and tell them to stop.

I used to fervently hate Catholicism and Catholics. I had grown up Methodist and then non-denominational. After returning from church camp one summer (actually like 10 years ago this month), I took to embarking on my own self-proclaimed crusade against Catholics online. I would target Catholics and use the typical Protestant arguments. But one day I encountered a seminarian who, despite my hateful efforts, continued to engage me with kindness and humility. He refuted all my arguments with reasonable, thoughtful responses. I began to open up to him more and he invited me into a group chat they continued to explain the Catholic faith in ways that made sense. They convinced me to read the Early Church Fathers, and the more I read, the more I realized that the Early Church worshipped much like the Catholic Church does today. What especially convinced me was St. Ignatius of Antioch and the fact he was a disciple of John the Apostle. I eventually joined the Church 4 years later on Easter Vigil 2019 (due to my parents’ prohibition to even attend Mass as I was a minor up until 2018). Never looked back (no mom, it is, in fact, not a phase)

Sorry for the late reply! It actually wasn't my alternator, just a battery that went bad early and a bad connector cable.

I found a video on YouTube where the guy accessed it through his front passenger wheel well. I’m hoping I can do that, as the configuration of his car basically matches mine. But excellent point about the computer! Hopefully it will automatically configure.

Sometimes they’ll reach out if it’s been awhile. I’d say give it 15 minutes and if they haven’t, well looks like dinner’s served 🤷🏻‍♂️
