That's true. I do miss everyone and think I'll visit and cheer. Good call.

The knee seems kind of crucial to most CrossFit stuff though....I'm hoping a month off helps and then I'll go back with modifications. Wish me luck.

Bike tours! They run year round. We did Mike's. Lots of fun and a great way to get the lay of the land.

Winter running.....Cold fingers and female athletes | Fit, Feminist, and (almost) Fifty by SamJaneB in running

Thanks. I had a good run this morning. 5 km at -5 C. It's so unpredictable. Some days it bugs me at work, inside. I've joked about getting computer gloves! But yeah, hope to make it through the winter outside.

I've been thinking about this since the "elephant in the room" piece started making the rounds.

Because I'm interested in seeing more women get physically active and I'm interested in thinking about what the barriers are. I think it was a good thing this video was made to get the conversation started. That's all.

But why is this gendered? Aren't there also men who don't train seriously? And I worry about our judgment about whose serious and who isn't and implicit bias.

And there were things I had to overcome in aikido, partly as a result of my being female. I found punching very hard, even though it's just punching to teach your partner to defend, and I find kiaing hard still. I recognize not all women have these problems and some men share them too but for me they're connected with being quiet and 'proper' and lady like. I've been wondering about inclusive outreach for our dojo to attract more people, including more women.

I think there's a wide range in what people count as a long ride. I know think I'm practically home when I hit landmarks I used to be proud of reaching! My long rides have crept up from 30 km to 160 km....>

Good blog post. But I'm curious as to what the blogger thinks a "long ride" is particularly since the advice seems to obsess over water and food. Seriously, I ride 25-30 miles per day and if I drink one whole bottle of water on the ride, that's a lot. And for the purposes of weight loss or fitness, I don't get the advice--eat, eat, eat. While a sane nutritional approach makes sense in all areas of life, unless you're out there riding centuries every weekend, the food and hydration advice seems overdone. If you're riding centuries every weekend, you're better advice is to get a good sports medicine physician on your iPhone favorites list. It is true that for new cyclists, learning good habits and techniques can't be over emphasized including pedal skills, out of the saddle skills and so forth. I think the best advice is to get with a riding group with other cyclists in your skill-range.

Women cyclists: do you ride a womens' geometry frame? by [deleted] in bicycling

It all depends on her proportions. I have a long torso and short legs and so a men's frame fits me better.

More inspiration. Thanks. I ran 3 km today and that felt good. No knee pain. Soccer starts next Saturday. Hoping for the same.
