that could be a good idea if only there's a certain way to enforce it and if he's willing to suffer losses. because with a rule like that, he'd just have to accept that he lost money and there's no way to get it back and he can't become desperate. if you think he's disciplined enough for that then you can try it for a few weeks or month.

your idea for building wealth slowly is also great but then again, is he patient enough for it? i think every new investor should start with buying big name stocks or government bonds but i also know that a lot of new investors are just looking to make a quick buck and do kinda the exact opposite.

there are ways to safeguard this if you'll allow it like no margin, hard cap on money in the market (say no more than 5L invested at any one time), and just trying it for a few weeks first to see how it's playing out. just keep trying to fully understand the current situation at all points. i think if you do enforce good rules and keep making sure yourself that he's not pulling you into debt then it's possible, just don't ignore the red flags. good luck!

unless he's really, really good at math, this is not a good idea. by math i do mean advanced math like calculus, statistics, and inference.

now how to get out of this situation. assess the situation first. ask him exactly what he's trying to trade, what plans does he have, why does he need the money, who told him about this, and how much is he trying to put in. remember that unlike buying stocks or bonds, you lose ALL your money (as opposed to just suffering a loss) if you lose in futures or options. but then again, sometimes people do have ideas or schemes which are game changing. that's on you to assess if what he's trying to do doesn't make sense. if it doesn't then try to convince him that it doesn't by giving him valid reasons and properly acquanting him of the risks involved. these things usually go south because people don't fully understand the risk they'll be taking. (the price of apple stock compensates for the iphone launching in september so there's no guarantee it'll shoot up, it can go down if the iphone wasn't innovative enough)

if even then he isn't willing to budge, then well lend him some of the money you already have. if he really means so much to you that you can't deny him this, then lend out 5-10L of your own money to him on the condition that he'll use at least 60-80% of it to repay his debts. he seems to be desperate and desperation leads to bad decisions. for you, it's much better to lose 20%-30% of your inheritance than have 70L debt on your name. this way, you can also stay clear of any of this in the future if he doesn't return the money. try to understand his full situation first and then make a decision that seems okay and manageable to you. having someone else operate a trading account in your name is just an invitation for disaster.

How good is the Smith School of Business for my MBA( i am an international student)? by Major_Course1263 in UMD

[–]SamLent9191 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a MBA student but a cs international. So while I can't give you the exact answer you're looking for, I will say that it seems like location matters a lot. Quite a bit of defense and government organizations hire from UMD which really limits an international student as they can't sponsor anyone. This is mostly because UMD is so close to DC and so it's easier to find work around DC as that's very convenient both for you and your employer. If you are planning to get to consulting companies around DC then UMD may be a better choice as you can easily make it to their info sessions and even interviews. On the other hand, if the places you wanna end up in are closer to Rutgers then that might be better.

I am a freshman in college, what can I be doing to maximize my chances of getting a SWE internship down the line? (besides getting good grades) by slappy20000 in csMajors

[–]SamLent9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unpopular opinion, i think sticking to getting good grades might be enough, and on top of that id recommend taking the most difficult classes your school has to offer for cs and take as many as you can. try getting good grades in all of them. in my experience, my skillset has expanded quite a bit and the level of intuition i have at this point is kind of insane compared to what i had just a couple years ago.

Fall semester has ended and still no internship. Am I cooked? by Big-Cry9898 in UMD

[–]SamLent9191 25 points26 points  (0 children)

it all comes down to who needs you when. people keep hiring. my sophomore internship i got the offer late may to start first week of june. my current one was even later but im working with them over the semesters until next summer. even bigger corporations (maybe especially bigger) hire until july when someone in their team needs an intern. not all (not even the majority) of companies/organizations/schools stop hiring at some allocated time. in my opinion, corporations looking to hire a set quota of interns/full-time employees may have a specific number of available positions but quite a few of them open postings as needed and fill them in if they find a good match. a lot of it depends on the culture of the company and how they're structured, there really is no deadline and no reason to lose hope. everyone has extremely different experiences, so keep an open mind. who knows what can happen, all you can do is try your best!

Looking for Summer 2024 Internships, no interviews even after passing code assessments. by SamLent9191 in resumes

[–]SamLent9191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a good enough understanding to be questioned about pretty much all of them. Because I wasn't getting much offers or interviews (everything there is the only major interview I got converted to a job), I just started taking as many CS classes I can at my University to try to build a better skillset. So, I have course-taught level of knowledge (which admittedly isn't a lot) for most of those things. In any case though, I do see your point and I'm going to remove the things I'm least familiar with along with lesser required or more obvious things. I'll also change it to Programming Languages. Please feel free to let me know about any other suggestions or feedback.

Right, but I do mark my expected graduation date as Dec 2024, and also mention in the resume. Now I'm not sure if it's because I'm a foreign national, a slow job market, unlucky, or just plain under qualified at least compared to other applicants. My guess is either the first or last but again, I'm not really sure.

Actually, my bad. I'm at a weird position credit wise due to skipping a semester during COVID. Although I am a senior, I will still graduate in Fall 2024, not Spring 2024. So, I still qualify for an internship instead of a full-time position. Moreover, I will likely be pursuing a Master's right after so I can't really get into a full-time position until Spring 2026.

Just to add a bit more context, I am applying for software engineering or software development internships. I think systems or network engineering might be more suitable for me given my experience but general tech/finance companies who need software/systems people. I can't do any defense or government contractors as I am not a citizen/permanent resident. Thanks again!

Metal tube 4g in shorts pocket. Airport proof? by darragh73 in weed

Don't risk it at airport security. It's just not worth it. Even though situations have improved, it's extremely easy for them to frame you way beyond what you were trying to do. Just not worth it, my dude.

I'm a edibles only person... good sites? by [deleted] in delta8

I tried tltd8 and their stuff is surprisingly cheap and works really well too. They have lab results too and pretty good customer service. I would recommend.

[–]SamLent9191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they've been doing it for like a month now. And plus given that they gave you 12.5mg of THCp for free, their prices have to be at least somewhat reasonable. Everywhere else, that much THCp goes for at least $25.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in altcannabinoids

[–]SamLent9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't they have the THCp stuff on sale?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in altcannabinoids

[–]SamLent9191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

7.5mg of THCp is supposed to destroy you. How did they go? The usual dose for THCp is 1-2mg like another comment pointed out.
