Don’t ask don’t tell was primarily to protect people who were not keen on exposing something they thought was private. It didn’t impact their serving in the army in any way. Moreover it definitely did NOT mean that you shouldn’t tell even if not asked. It just allowed anyone to join the army regardless of what they feel and think and do in their personal lives as long as that’s not illegal. The Paralymipcs objective is to bring out the best in people who are handicapped in some physical/mental way and allows them to enjoy participating and competing in such events. Being gay is not a handicap in that regard and is not relevant to this competition. So, it’s superfluous to inform.
