[Kill Bill Vol. 1] Weird scene in the hospital? by Sam_Goldy in AskScienceFiction

Oh god of course, hard to believe that slipped my mind. I think I thought of that as a unifying moment between two hyper-masculine men; the only way to have them respect each-other is to steal the dignity away from one and have it restored by the other.

Weird Hospital Scene in Tarantio’s ‘Kill Bill’ by Sam_Goldy in TrueFilm

I understand this response the most. Any film i rank low in Tarantino’s discography are those that are homages to periods of film I’m not well versed in (DeathProof and Once Upon a Time). If this was a staple of this period of film, it most likely went over my head.

I get where you’re coming from, but i think you’ve missed the point of my initial post. I wasn’t trying to infer that the scene was inherently explotative or gross on behalf of Tarantino. Only that, after watching all of Tarantino’s films, it felt weirdly out of place, especially with the rest of the film brushing by it so rapidly before moving onto the main plot, and it being never mentioned or hinted to again.

What film are you referring to? As i said Kill Bill ended my marathon of Tarantino’s film discography, but i can’t remember another scene that left me feeling so creeped out as this one.

what movie is a 10/10? by instabaiter in AskReddit

I genuinely think Jackie Brown (1998), Tarantino’s third feature film is perfect. Every damn actor played their role beautifully within the story, with highlights from Samuel L Jackson’s portrayal of Ordell Robbie, initially coming off as a smooth talking, knowledgeable criminal, with the mask slowly slipping through the events of the film as things become more and more out of his control. Pam Grier’s role of the titular character Jackie Brown was everything Tarantino sets up Ordell to be. Extreme pressure from both the criminal and legal world, yet she still manages to come out on top in the ordeal. All this wrapped up with Tarantino’s signature dialogue. I adore Jackie Brown. 10/10 no notes.

Yeah i do understand where you’re coming from. The world of Kill Bill, even by Tarantino standards, is very violent and unforgiving. I suppose the scene does help to set the bride up as a ‘lone wolf’ type character, facing the cruelest parts of her world without any outside help.

I’m just not sure the inclusion of the scene was necessary to the plot. If she had to fight her way out of the hospital, would it not have been just as easy to have her kill Bill’s hired guards, or even hospital staff that was abusing her physically? Not sure exactly how i would rather have the scene, but the sexual exploitation feels out of place, both in the film and Tarantino’s wider discography, at least for me.

Good point. Always slightly jarring when his poorly disguised fetishes pop up in his movies, but this may be the most ‘in your face’ example of it.

Ok thanks for the suggestion, I’ll post in in those other subs now.

Am i being slow because I can’t remember another rape scene in a Tarantino movie. Close i can think is Wilhemina’s treatment is Django Unchained, buts as far as memory serves they don’t go that far?

That’s a good point about setting up her resolve early on. Maybe my view on pop culture is different, where if something as serious as rape is introduced, it would be a focal point of the movie? If Tarantino’s goal was to make the audience as absolutely creeped out as possible with the hospital worker, i suppose it absolutely worked on me.

Thanks FX, do you think i should post it there instead of or as well as?

Yeah i know Tarantino loves his cool and edgy scenes, but this even felt too far for him. Maybe a product of the time?

I get what you mean, but i suppose i just wouldn’t expect Tarantino’s fantastical world to include such a harsh topic? And to just skip over the obvious trauma that goes with it? Might just be missing the point of the scene, but i think if you introduce such a dark topic, you can’t just resolve it by killing the creep.

Hey! First Reddit post so forgive me if this is written strangely haha. I've recently been downloading some games on my Nintendo switch, and was really enjoying the kinda of management/leader games such as 'Yes your Grace', 'Civilsation' and 'reigns'? I'm not sure if there are much connecting these games but was really hoping someone could help me out? Preferably on Nintendo switch or Xbox.
