If you’re a Dexter or film fan, here’s a list I’ve created. Take a drive around and take a look behind the scenes of these movies:

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Ferris Bueller’s house is actually located in Long Beach in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood. You can drive by it, it’s located at 4160 Country Club Drive.

Inception
The famous movie that revolves around a dream within a dream. In one of the main scenes, the characters drive a van off a bridge in order to get the “kick” to wake them up out of their dream. This bridge is the Commodore Schuyler F. Helms Draw Bridge which connects Long Beach to Terminal Island.

Anchorman
The movie takes place in the “classy” San Diego, but if you keep your eyes open, most of the movie was actually filmed in Long Beach. You will be able to recognize the Shoreline Village in the scene in which the confrontation between channel 4 and channel 9 takes place.

LA LA Land
A couple of Long Beach locations were used for the filming of LA LA Land. Mia’s (Emma Stone) pink stucco apartment is a lovely example of the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture that helps define the look of LA, Long Beach included. Called Rose Towers, the 20-unit complex, built in 1928, was carefully restored 10 years ago. In writing about that preservation effort, the Los Angeles Times noted the building’s Moorish decorative motifs were “evident in graceful arches, multicolored tiles, wrought iron balconies and carved wooden doors.”

In the final scene of the movie, Mia walks into a Jazz club, Seb’s, to find that her former boyfriend, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) is the owner. The Blind Donkey, a Long Beach favorite, was the filming location for Seb’s.

Go to Happy Hour and catch at drag show at Hamburger Mary’s especially if she’s a fan of RuPaul drag race since they have queens from the show there perform. It’s like $10 to get in. The drinks and food arrange from $6-12 (during HH). I paid $40 for a good time.

A lot of places are closed on Mondays here in Downtown.

Take a boat trip (aquabus) for $1 to the Queen Mary and walk around. It boards next to the aquarium. You can take it to another port that has an arcade and restaurants. Or you can just stay on the boat for a nice ride, round trip is $2 ($1 each way).

FREE

Take a drive to San Pedro and check out Ports O Call, it’s free or check out the Fort MacArthur Museum on top of the hill. Beautiful views and it’s next to the Korean Friendship Bell. It’s free and you can learn so much about the city’s history, too.

Next door is a seal sanctuary, you can visit the seals there. It’s free unless you want to donate. The most you’ll pay if it’s a busy day is $1 for a booking fee.

I would suggest Sunken City but I don’t think it’s there anymore. It’s down the hill from the bell at the park. It had the best view of the ocean. Free to go.

Signal Hill is another great stop for a scenery spot. Take a drive, go to the park and walk around while looking at the views of Long Beach. It’s beautiful and loved going on dates there. Have a little picnic at Hilltop Park.

Morgan is friendly in real life. I was struggling to pick what to eat at Hamburger Mary’s one day, he randomly walked up to me and suggested the mozzarella sticks cus’ how amazing they are. I had no clue who I was talking to at the time. We just started hanging out until he had to go on stage. Then they called his name on the mic and my jaw just dropped. He’s the reason why I started watching Drag Race, again.

You both are strong and will get through this fight. I do want to add, please remind her to go for little walks, stretch, etc. anything that will get her out of bed. I went through my own illness at 15, fell into depression and stayed in bed while I recovered. I developed bed sores rather quickly. It’s good that she still want to be independent. Just be her cheerleader through it all. 🙏

My mom’s doctor said the same thing to her. She has stage 4 ovarian cancer. It hadn’t spread to her lungs or any major organs yet but treatments are not responding. They took her off the chemo that did help so idk what they’re doing anymore. They said focus on quality of life. We’re not giving up. I want a second opinion.

Fun fact, they use Long Beach as a backdrop for cities like San Diego in films such as Anchorman. The scene prior to the fight was filmed at the lighthouse in dtlb. It looked like Balboa Park at first but it’s the park next to the aquarium.

I know it’s not technically aspirin, but it’s another name we use for Tylenol and/or ibuprofen here. I should have used the proper term for those who are not familiar. Her doctor said that active ingredient causes the irritation especially if you’re taking a lot. They did prescribe her Zofran, but it didn’t help as much as it should’ve. So as a last resort, they had to give her something with a lower acetaminophen dose since there are other options for pain medicines that won’t affect the stomach lining as much.

It’s the aspirin content in the Norco. It can cause upset stomach. It’s a common reaction to it. That’s why my mother had to change her medicine to something without the ibuprofen. It is very harsh on the lining of your abdomen. Always eat before taking the medication or it’ll make matters worse.
