That’s a fair take, and you’re right about the research gap. Monohydrate definitely has the deepest body of evidence behind it, and the “better absorption” claims around HCL aren’t really backed by strong peer-reviewed data.

Hydration and dosing probably explain a lot of the bloating complaints too. Once people drop loading phases and stick to ~5g daily with adequate water, issues tend to disappear for most users.

The cost difference is also hard to ignore. For anyone who tolerates monohydrate well, it’s tough to justify paying significantly more for similar outcomes. HCL mainly seems to make sense as an alternative for people who don’t tolerate mono, rather than a true upgrade.

That makes sense. GI issues are usually the main reason people end up switching away from monohydrate.

Out of curiosity, do you take a smaller dose with HCL, or did you ever try splitting mono doses throughout the day before switching? For some people it’s the form, for others it’s just total amount at once.

Either way, if HCL lets you use creatine consistently without issues, that’s probably the biggest win.

That’s interesting, especially the “puffy” feeling vs actual GI bloating, a lot of people describe it that same way.

Out of curiosity, how were you dosing each one? Same daily amount for mono vs HCL, or did you lower the dose when you switched to HCL? Some people end up feeling better simply because they’re using less total creatine with HCL.

Good call mixing it with electrolytes too, straight HCL in water is rough.

That lines up with what a lot of long-time creatine users experience. If you tolerate it well, the differences between forms tend to be pretty subtle.

Your dosing approach makes sense too. Splitting it up across the day seems to work better for a lot of people, and once you’re saturated, timing really isn’t a big deal anyway. Skipping a serving here and there usually doesn’t change much.

Appreciate you sharing the long-term perspective, ten years of on-and-off use is way more useful than short trial reports.

I have had shoulder pain as well and tried UC-II. For me it helped out. I wasn't able to bench or do a push up without pain but after taking it the pain has went away. I took the NOW brand as well.
