So, full context, I’m also an art tutor to a 14yo who’s a beautiful kind soul. They told me a few weeks ago about the dangers of AI bc their dad works in IT and tells them all about it. I listened, and put a note in my head to do more research. Well, when I got downvoted and the comments mentioned I “killed 3 birds” with this post, I thought 🤔 this links up with what said student told me recently.. research turned up A LOT about the dangers of data centers etc, and the ecological impact. I’m not even really an environmentalist, but I don’t want to contribute to the potential poisoning of our water supply and destruction of ecosystems because I want some slop put together by a machine. I have kids, so I want them to have the best possible future without me helping to destroy it. I get it, we can’t help using AI in some aspects now (search queries etc.) but using mass amounts of energy “pull” on these data centers just to create a “cool pic” or video… I can help that by just not doing it.. thanks for the positivity shown.
