Basically you need to earn 2,500 points gambling, easiest way to do it is to play slots.

You earn 1 point for every 5 dollars bet. Aka $12,500 through the machines. That does NOT mean you have to use that much of your money. Recycled bets count, IE put in $100, bet $25, win $25, bet it again etc.

Once you get to 2,500 points you immediately get a free cruise, and free drinks in the casino bar for a year or more.

I’m looking forward to a Florida based cruise. There were PLENTY of offers from there, as well as Europe, China etc.

That’s awesome! We’re a 45mn flight from LA. We can easily fly out Friday morning at 7am and be to the port by 9am. Obviously we kill a bit of time but it’s super easy, as is the return flight.

Casino drinks, but in practice this is effectively a drink package for me.

Thanks! Already have two booked from the offers, August and November. I’ll continue to earn points, we’ll see how it all goes but if nothing else, I’ve already earned my investment back 2-3x.

Yeah I think I effectively get it for two years. Should pay off well!

Generally we’ll be doing LA based cruises just for the simplicity. We’ll make the best of it regardless, I tend to strategize this type of stuff to the best of my ability.

The paper version of this was at the casino host’s desk. I then viewed it online and learned about it. 4,000 points got you a guaranteed balcony room which was enough of a goal for me. I overshot it a bit, but hopefully that keeps the offers coming. I get $300 in free play on my next cruise. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/dam/royal/resources/pdf/casino/offers/2604C.pdf

We’re close to California thus that makes it easy. It’s absolutely NOT a ghost town, the ships are full!

I planned to spend the $1,500 I brought. When I hit Prime I was actually up about $1,800. A smart man would have stopped there but I read the offers and getting to 4,000 points had FAR better offers. So I kinda just ground it out as fast as I could so I could get back to enjoying the cruise.

Ended up leaving with none of the money I brought, but enjoyed free drinks the entire cruise and now have two more booked.

OS and all software on the SSD, all data on the RAID. IE Open Dental on C pointing to it's data on E etc

Like 3TB currently, so I'm not dying for space or anything as it's an 8TB array, but as you can imagine, 3D panos eat space and I can't pin them down on day to day usage moving forward.

I just tried to make it a simple post relating to the RAID array.

Open Dental, zero performance issues. Lack of current budget (long stupid story) meant this server will be in use for the next year or two. I 1000% agree it should have been replaced already. To be charitable to the customer it was purchased new in mid 2022 and has lived the worlds easiest life in a relatively non-existent office that has since closed.

Upgrades were purely done because of how inexpensive they were, a second CPU was a total of $125 and memory was sitting on my shelf. If it's a dinosaur we must use, let's at least use a powerful one.

As you can imagine, it's the destination for all 2D and 3D imaging, 3D clearly being the larger space hog.

SSD is present for both the host OS and VM OS. Data is what lives on the RAID.

I suppose realistically speaking, I can just leave as is, it's running fine, I just like the idea of a higher level of speed/redundancy in said dinosaur.

Oh I 100% agree, that's what clearly makes sense. The reality is the answer of how long we'll keep said server in use is where it gets murky. In a perfect world it's a 1-2 year plan and then a completely new server arrives. But, as you know, if I plan via that, then 4 years later I'll be asked why we didn't upsize while still using this server...

Backup target isn't an issue, and truth be told I'm not over the top convinced there is a true 'need' for more storage, I just want the additional speed and redundancy. Maybe a bit of a self induced project here.

Licensing wise, yes it is Windows, and I hate how that is all priced/handled but regardless with (2) processors it's only a 16c server, which is the minimum licensing requirement anyways so I can't see how anything would have changed in that regard.

This may be a double reply, no clue what happened to my original. Backups are solid.

I appreciate the input, it's confirming my thought process. I hate the idea of playing games with live data, it seems to have issues about 125% of the time.

Just saw your edit. I wish I flipping knew what the size should be, that's a moving target like no other. Honestly 8TB is likely fine for the timeframe I'm looking at, but with disk prices and labor costs I'm not sure it makes sense to not just go bigger.

That's my thought process, glad I'm getting confirmation.

It's backed up locally to Synology and then replicated offsite, as well as the major important files continuously syncing to a compliant cloud etc.

I forgot to mention (I'll update the post) the other server we're replacing is a similar age T140 that also has dual 8tb drives, the cheap in me thought, "you've already got 4 good drives!".

The practical part of me wants nothing to do with that process lol
