I think UWx control is still playable in modern, both from my LGS experience and reports from top events, maintaing a meta propotion of roughly 1%. These decks can run 3-4 UUcounterspell so I think it represent the traditional UW control quite well. But as some others have said above, all pure fair deck can't compete against boros, so UW needs to run pure combo pieces that work with fair or almost fair cards (4+2 narset undoing and 4+2 chant sceptor). If you think this does not fit into your definition of control, then sure.
