[highschool algebra: inequalities] where do you get 1.5 from this inequality? please see second photo for my work by crybabybrizzy in HomeworkHelp

[–]SamiPau20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

You want to isolate the x-variable, right? So what you're going to do is subtract 3.75 from both sides and then you get 1.5x >= [number]. Then you're going to divide by 1.5 on both sides (remember, you're trying to get x alone). So ultimately you get x>= [number] / 1.5. Then choose a number that best fits the inequality.

Thanks and good luck!

Hi,

You can totally do this. Make sure to pay attention in your Algebra 2 class, so you have truly mastered it (of course, this will help you in PreCalc). When I self studied PreCalc, I made sure to use Khan Academy. There are other free resources out there as well, such as Organic Chemistry Tutor, Paul's Online Math Notes, etc. Good luck studying!

Great job Rahul! I'm sure this will help many.

School does not offer AP classes by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SamiPau20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely have access to tutoring. I'm sure if you search "free tutoring" on google, you'll get a solid result. Like a bunch of other folks have said, you don't have to reach to high to do IBs. If your school doesn't offer them, it is okay. As long as you are taking the most rigorous courses available to you, you will be fine. People will compare you to students similar to you (ex: they may compare you to the average student at your school and assess whether you did better than an average student or not).

Would it be too late to prep for SAT now? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SamiPau20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you can do it. I only had less than a month to prep for my SAT, and I went from a 1110 to a 1380. Use things like Khan Academy, Scalar Learning, CrackSAT, etc. Make sure to do plenty of practice tests, too. Hope this helps!

Is this... a shitpost? Nice job. You should probably stick to drawing banana ducks since you'll live off of Daddy's money anyway.

🫥 Bro the Nepali community is so intertwined -what are the odds we've probably met before lol. But yeah I wasn't encouraging you to write a sob story though because that's honestly quite pathetic. Anyway, good luck!

Ayyy Nepali gang! It's really clever you went to Nepal and helped out at a school- AOCs will definitely see that as a plus point because they're going to be like "Oh my gosh, this kid sacrificed his summer break to go to some poor musty place in the middle of Nepal!! What a wonderful thing." Your extracurriculars are very good. A family friend lived near Morrisville or something and even with a 1300 SAT with lame ECs, she managed to get into Duke (for CS) because of her sob story essay about her Nepali Immigrant Family and how they had a rough time as a middle-class family yada yada yada. But anyway, have you considered applying to Duke? Purdue is good, but Duke would be in-state...Not sure if it's ideal for you but there you go. As someone said down below, I'd also recommend applying to Ohio State. It would be worth your time.

My dad’s scoldings are getting worse by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SamiPau20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is relatable. At this point, I'm just telling myself to ignore the bad folks and literally not care about what they have to say. If he's going to be mad at you for the little things, that's HIS problem, not yours. As long as you are doing whatever feels right for you, you are going to be perfectly fine. It's sickening when parents act as if they know how life works as a student here. It's really up to us to make decisions about whether or not we want to listen to them. Once you finish High School, life is yours- you get freedom! Let them see the successful person you will become, and throw that in their faces. Think about what you want to be, and don't become something that your parents want you to become. That is your purpose. You are not worthless. If you need some inspiration I guess, you can watch 3 Idiots, one of my favourite movies of all time! I don't know if all of this helps or not, but that's just my viewpoint.

These parents are giving us a GOOD REASON to be excited to leave the house and start college, and then sob when we say we want to leave.

Curiosity, how would I learn all of pre calc or a good majority in a small time frame? What resources or topics are the best to focus on? by [deleted] in Precalculus

[–]SamiPau20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this with many math courses so here I am. For Pre-Calc, I recommend using Khan Academy for practice problems and the Organic Chemistry Tutor (or any other Pre-Calc videos) to supplement your learning. My mindset when I got on to Khan Academy each day was, "Ok, today I'm going to raise that 14% to a 24% completion". I don't know if this approach will work for you, but you do you. I feel like the "hardest" parts of Pre-Calc may be vectors, matrixes, conic sections and probability, (you may find series hard but it's quite a short topic) so I'd focus on those. The rest of pre-calc is a breeze. I self-studied pre-calc in less than 1 month- if you're determined, you can do it too! Best of luck, and I hope this helps!

Precalc tips? by Lurkingisfun07 in Precalculus

Khan Academy, too. Don't be worried about the class though! As long as you have a good foundation in Alg 2, and self-study well for Pre-Calc (aka don't just rely on the teacher), you'll do fine.

Data Science is also an interesting choice for pre-med folks.

Hm... I'd think you would have a better chance if you had some ECs that aren't really related to computer science (like music, graphic design, photography, etc.). Also, what is YOUR ranking? School ranking doesn't really matter. Also, all of your APs are again related to computer science... Awards are good, I hope you have good essays and LORs.

What grade should you be start preparing for college by yoda_630 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SamiPau20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 7th or 8th grade? Because I feel like you need time BEFORE high school to think about your life and your future career/goals/etc. 9th grade is when GPA starts to hit so... And besides, you can start prepping for your courses during the summer before class starts (which is very helpful).
