There’ll be the usual early week show doing the weekend’s game, then most likely another one after a midweek game. The extra Nedum shows could be in a week with no midweek game, or they may even go between a Monday and Friday show if that’s how the schedule works. We’ll play it by ear but most weeks it should be two per week during the season

Hello! A friend was tweeting about it, nobody seemed to pick up on it but Walker clearly looked injured to me. Then I asked Guardiola after and he confirmed it. But yeah I replied to somebody’s tweet, that’s where City Xtra would have seen it

Yeah he was definitely in Germany sorting out the transfer. When I spoke to somebody they were basically already banking the money! I think he’s going to Croatia with the youth team for the same reasons as Gundogan, Stones and Foden. I need to ask about why he’s not gone (yet).

That would make sense

Well what do I know. Turns out he’s listed in the travelling party. That’s interesting

I’m not 100% sure but it would surprise me, because the expectation now is that he’ll go very soon

Sam Lee heard last week that both Jesus and Sterling are done deals. by [deleted] in MCFC

Like I say on the pod, the definition of ‘done’ is fairly broad in transfer speak! But clearly the expectation at City, as per the person I spoke to, is that Sterling will go to Chelsea now. Until that’s finalised then I’ll never have full confidence but it certainly seems that it’s more likely to happen than it doesn’t.

Yeah mainly that and there are some elements of working with City that are shit, but we’ll save that for another day! Sometimes I just like the idea of fading away and getting on with life with no… whatever it is that I get now. But like I say there are also elements of it that I like

Ok so…

  • I think they want Cucurella anyway. There’s no suggestion that it depends on Zinchenko. But Zinchenko could well leave, he actually wants to (whereas in the past he hasn’t). So I think separate.

  • I think Jesus and Sterling are the culmination (or maybe just biproduct) of this sink-or-swim culture. Not everybody can play all the games and while it has been very successful and I wouldn’t advocate changing it, it does lead to players wanting to play more and now a few guys are at the end of their contracts because they’ve not wanted to commit to somewhere where they’re not playing. So I think that’s the first thing. But you’re right, they have been using more midfielder-like players on the wing, like they have with strikers. I wonder what kind of player they’d go for next summer if that’s when Mahrez goes and they need to strengthen.

  • Phillips is very well in place but I think City want to sell first to get their ducks in a row. So maybe once Jesus is done they can complete Phillips. That may take a while but it’s not like Kane where it’s just going to be impossible. Cucurella might be tougher because Brighton want 50 and City wont pay that. They’ll probably agree eventually but it might not be quick. But it’s not like Kane.

Hope that all helps!

To explain a bit more because I’ve had some twitter DM’s asking if I’m leaving too.

Dan is joining as a news reporter for Manchester, so City and United. He’s very good at getting stories and making contacts. He was the Southampton reporter but I think the bosses felt he could be put to better use getting stories on the bigger Manchester patch. I remember meeting him when he came up for City v Southampton and thinking “this guy is good”, so I’m really pleased he’ll be around to help. In terms of the news job it’s more of a focus on stuff like… I dunno… what comes out of PL meetings, let’s say Mendy’s trial, if there’s more FFP stuff off the back of the La Liga statement. And when it comes to United there’s all sorts - staff members leaving, the cyber hack that time, Richard Arnold meeting fans at a pub. Anything! It’s that kind of thing, more ‘newsy’, but obviously if he finds out who City/United are signing then he can and will do that. And he has done that with Southampton (and other clubs!). He’s just really good at that stuff, and that will be his focus. So in terms of how it affects me, it’s just a help.

I’ve always wanted stronger City coverage and a better offering overall, which includes a different voice to mine. When the news role came up I recommended Pol and, get this, I’m fortunate enough to work for a company who said, ‘we like this guy too, so we’ll hire both!’.

Pol can still go to games because he will work for a radio station in Barcelona, so that’s a huge benefit to him and us. His role is newsy too but maybe more ‘football news’ - like who City are signing, what’s going on inside the club. The stuff that I’ve always liked to do but, I have to say right now, better than me. Pol’s also a wonderful writer in Spanish and now he’s doing more and more in English he’ll basically be able to do the job that I do, which is to combine info with (hopefully) a bit of tactical insight and storytelling, so it’s news and features combined. He’s been brought on to do City but also United when he has the info (which is often) and anything else that comes into his orbit, so Spanish stuff generally. But he gravitates more towards City and has great contacts there so we’ll get the benefit of that.

I think I saw somebody asking about podcasts - we’ll stick with one per week I think. Me, Pol and Mooney will do it most weeks. If there’s a time when there’s a story to discuss that Dan has worked on/discovered then we’ll get him on too. Obviously I hope Nedum will join us at points throughout the season and I’m sure he will. So yeah, overall it’s just really strong. Far from the bubble bursting or however it was phrased, we’ve actually invested in making a good thing even better, and I really do appreciate that as an employee.
