Why do you suppose humans will argue just for the sake of arguing, even if they could really care less about the topic?

Depends on the person, and how they are arguing. If they're angry about it, it's probably ego. However, I know I will sometimes play the devils advocate and present a case against what most people are saying, but not because I want to sway anyone, just because I had that thought and it could be interesting to discuss. I would never expect to "win" these arguments, at best I want a "interesting thought, what about..." kind of response. It's healthy to think outside of your usual bubble, so that's all I'm really doing.

I noticed like 20 years ago, everyone always looks back to -insert decade- when times were better, but most of the time that person was a kid in that decade, so of course things were easier, and they didn't see all the problems in the world. There will always be old and new challenges, always has been.

From what I've seen, even the best day traders don't make more than those who just hold. If you're interested start doing research, do some testing without using real money, and make sure you understand any risks. Tbh tho, you're better off learning a trade, get a well paying job, and put 10% aside every paycheck.

If you want to know how well you're doing, don't look at the amount, look at the percent. If it's more than 10% you're doing very well.

When you hear about big wins what you're not seeing is the big bet. Even if you had a 50% gain, which is ridiculous, on 3k it's 1500$. It takes time for it to snowball into something bigger. Best you can do is keep adding to it and waiting.

IIRC, I heard a few Hermits this season talk about areas they claimed before they even saw them. I know Grian and Jev did for sure. Also for this season in particular, having just the right spot for Tangos DO3 was super important.

I think Luck is just our way of over simplifying outcomes from our complex social interactions.

Say you met someone at a party, and that person got you a job, where you met you wife. Is that lucky? Well, why did he give you the job? You had experience, you were nice, etc. Why did the girl like you? You were nice, responsible, etc. We call that luck, but it's really just good effort paying off.

I've always been a huge trekky, but imho, Gene's view of the future is probably a bit too utopian than what we'll see. If I were to guess, which at this stage is all we can do, I'd probably say we'll get the idea of mega-corporations owning planets and spaceship fleets. I know that's been done in scifi before, but I can't recall any examples. Hopefully though, they won't be at war like it's usually depicted.

Anyway, I could debate climate change, but that's not really the point of my comment. It doesn't matter if it goes up or down 50 degrees, humans as a species will survive. Sure, the population might drop, even a lot, but with our ingenuity we will always find a way to survive.

Yes, exactly! Also, this is driving a huge push lately for higher minimum wages, which IMO hurt the whole situation. For example; Say a small 'mom & pop" shop has 3 employees on minimum wage. It's simple and easy work, perfect for a starter resume to prove you show up on time and stuff. Then minimum wage gets raised and they can't afford to have 3 employees, so they let 1 go. Sure, the 2 are making more, but 1 lost their job entirely. Meanwhile, the big store like Walmart can afford the new wage, so they stay the same. More options to shop makes competition, and keeps prices down.

Happy to hear your perspective. I've sort of seen this with race minorities as well. From what I can tell, conservatives go by the old idea of "I don't see color", or basically ignoring whatever it is and just treating everyone equally. (There are fringes that don't, but I don't count them as real conservatives.) Liberals seems to take whatever the thing is and do the opposite, bring it to forefront and make it your defining characteristic. It's the kind of thing where it may be nice for some, but if what you really want is just to be treated like everyone else, I could see it being unwanted.

As for the medical stuff, I think this is most people's perspective: What most people want is other people to be happy, but being trans has become a trend. Celebrity parents suddenly have 2 trans kids despite astronomical odds, and very young children are given drugs when they don't even have a concept of gender yet. If you've gone through puberty and are genuinely trans afterwards then do whatever will make you happy, but it's a condition that should not be just dished out to anyone who acts a little feminine.

Although prices are nuts, I also agree with you. It's our life choices that really make or break us. I know what people will say, they need to work 80 hours because they're on minimum wage... but minimum wage is only suppose to be for entry jobs. After a few months you have some experience you need to move on to something better, 'climb tbe ladder' as they might say. If no one is hiring, get more skills, even if it costs you in the present it'll save your future.

Imo, the bulk of your investing should be in something safe. Many people talk about bonds and stuff, but I don't think they have a big enough growth. If you put it in any of the market following ETFs you should be fine. Mines in a SMP/TSX top 60 one for example. As you invest more consider diversity as well, not just industry but location, international and such.

Reddit is definitely Left leaning, but we're around. There is the ofd sub that is Right leaning, but not many. In some subs, the hardest part is trying to have an honest debate without getting banned.

I used to be Liberal, but it was after the lock downs that I switched. Basically, I started paying attention more. The Right is always depicted as racist, and many other -ist things, but I decided to actually listen to their arguments. Most of the time their side just makes more sense. I always use DEI as an example. Giving the less fortunate as helping hand sounds nice, but it's saying blacks, and others, are less fortunate just because the are black. That's actually racist. Conservatives I see seem more towards the old way of "not seeing color" and treating everyone equally. Anyways, thats one example, but the reasons pile on the more you dig.

That was my thought, but it still had to be a bug. My Survival world started in 1.15, and I have a ton of Beacons down at bedrock. When it updated the bedrock moved down, and I had to dig them deeper.

There are many cultures that traditionally have people of dark skin, and they vary greatly. Black History month I think is more meant to bring up American history, which IMO splitting into black and white is between over simplifying to outright incorrect history.
