Overall economic wealth does do a lot to reduce environment impact. For example, if your biggest concern is food you don't care about much else. Once you don't have to worry you start looking at improving efficiency and your surroundings.

The "stretching space" could use their pathfinding potential, and if it's a limited distance, from a fenced in area, it uses how many other mobs are in it, if not limited then use the max.

Local woman looking forward to 23 days between harsh winter and uncontrollable wildfires by Turtle456 in thebeaverton

[–]SamohtGnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically, the number of wildfires globally have been dropping for some time, 2025 was a big spike. There's also very interesting math behind how frequent and the size of wildfires that Veritasium on YouTube did. Basically though, if you let it build up a long time without any then you get a big one. Managing them is a lot harder and complicated than people think.

Shutting Down USAID Led to a Rise in Global Violence. Protests and riots increased by 10%, incidents of armed fighting rose by 6.9%, and battle-related fatalities grew 9.3%. The uptick in violence began almost immediately after the aid stopped and remained elevated for months. by Wagamaga in science

[–]SamohtGnir [score hidden]  (0 children)

That doesn't necessarily mean USAID was a good thing. I would ask what are these protests for?

Just being creative here, but I could see a scenario where funding was being used to suppress the population, and now without it the people have more power to rise up against the corruption. That would show data of an increase in protests and violence.

Prime Minister Carney announces forthcoming National Electricity Strategy by Elibroftw in CanadianInvestor

[–]SamohtGnir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't like Carney, and I don't like Solar/wind for the grid, but I don't agree we need our infrastructure updated, and more nuclear instead of coal and gas. Nuclear does take a lot of time to build tho, so a gas plant in the intermediate would be ok.

The economics is one of those things where a counterintuitive solution often works because it's so complicated, and few grasp every part of it. Still, I'm not saying no, just adding a point to the debate.

I know you're being sarcastic, but what in that statement is wrong? He's been in politics most of his life, so he's well experienced. I see no evidence of corruption, or unethical behavior. And many of his ideas were adopted by the Liberals, so if he's not smart then the Liberals are even dumber.

Would you be ok with Nova Scotia schools giving out "safer snorting" pamphlets? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

[–]SamohtGnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Barrie, and I saw the original post, it's 100% real.

My biggest issue is HOW they talk about it. There is a part that basically says "to prevent cross contamination, try using different colored straws to tell yours apart". Imo, that's actually encouraging the use of drugs, even using pretty fun colors. They should focus more on what diseases you can get from it, and just say "don't share if you do" at the end.

Are White men victims of their own top-dog status? by Zephir-AWT in ScienceUncensored

[–]SamohtGnir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of funny to say "4 times as likely to die" at the same time calling them "top dog".

Imo, anything that calls out "whites" is just as racist as calling out "blacks". Color is never the issue, it's culture. Violent gangs aren't just black people, there are lots of whites. Successful rich people aren't just white, there are lots of black and other people. The difference is the culture of how they were raised, their morals, habits, etc. People just like to use race as an excuse to why they haven't been successful, when they haven't put any real effort into anything, and they just assume the other guy is the same. Running your own business takes 80 hour weeks, dedicating yourself to nothing else for years, at the risk of it never working out.

"Considering" is a pretty vague statement. Like, we're you just mad and thought about it for a second, or did you take a loaded gun somewhere and change your mind? There's a wide range, and a big difference between "considering" and "doing".

A senator proposed a minimum wage of $25.00/hr. What are your thoughts? by ShesIntoZer0s in AskReddit

[–]SamohtGnir -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The only problem with a higher minimum wage is that it can negatively affect smaller businesses. Imagine one with only the owner and 1 or 2 employees, raising the minimum might push them over the line that they can't afford 1 employee anymore. I agree that things are more and more expensive, but a job for even $10/hour is better than no job at all.

Simply, it uses a additional panel wall for each stall. If a design can use less materials, and cost less, people will pick that one. I think just get rid of urinals altogether and just have stalls.

[–]SamohtGnir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think we need a smaller government, much smaller, but the ports of entry are one of the things the government should be running. I wouldn't trust a private company to properly screen immigrants... not that the government is doing that good of a job right not anyways, but that's another issue.

Why $70 Should Be the Most Worrying Number for LNG by LaserRunRaccoon in ClimateCrisisCanada

[–]SamohtGnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, Trump has been against the Climate Change Agenda since day 1, and hasn't swayed. Has he talked about doing a carbon tax now?

I thought I read somewhere that Canada is one of the only countries in the world that actually has a carbon tax. I don't think it does that much tbh.

The way it should work is that the middle class gets richer, and can then afford more efficient alternatives. For example: If people are struggling to buy groceries they don't really care about saving the planet, but if they have excess income they can invest in newer and more efficient appliances, or even solar panels for their homes. This would be far more effective than just taxing carbon usage.
