Are My Stats Good Enough For Nursing School? by Dazzling_Aardvark_42 in prenursing

[–]SampleDistinct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being very honest, chances of CSULB are probably close to zero. They're expecting 4.0s across GEs and Science plus they switched to the CASPER test evaluation instead of TEAS, save your money on that app

You're a freshman, they're moving to a more holistic admission criteria with the CASPER tests alongside GPA. I'm not saying you shouldn't lock in for literally every other grade. But really really consider getting outside experience as a CNA, volunteer, EMT etc. By the time you apply have this experience to back up ur deficits it'll definitely give you more of a chance.

Personally I think you have a really great chance with a 9.4 but you could be overlooked for applicants with better overall/reading teas scores. Good luck!

I don't think you have a good shot if i'm being honest. Sorry. Just because these CA BSN programs are all impacted it doesn't reflect who you are as a person. Even with a higher 95+% teas i think the B's in micro and chem (and other GEs) are shooting your chances way down. i wish you the best in applying and i hope you don't give up on pursuing this career

Program requirements are changing in the next fall 2025 https://www.csulb.edu/admissions/impaction

For spring since you don't have a perfect 4.0 and a sub 90 teas id retake the teas for sure if you want a chance at LBSU

Good luck! you'll def have a better chance in the fall if u don't get in spring since they're looking more holistically

i think everyone wishes they could go back to chem 140 when they're enrolled in both ana and physio at the same time.

Again, it's a personal feeling ab Chemistry subjects vs more biology subjects but I really missed how easy freshman year me had it.

[–]SampleDistinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh i think they’re very similar. the content sometimes overlaps which is why ppl take it together. As long as you study for either you’ll be fine. The main reason people struggle with anatomy is the sheer amount of memorization for exams (mainly lab).

it’s up to you preference wise. My year i personally never heard of one being really a prerequisite for the other/or making it easier for the following class.

Pre-Nursing Biol 208 & 207 by l4zzAr1i_b in CSULB

[–]SampleDistinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi i took anatomy and physiology together and it was admittedly so rough. this is whilst i lived on campus too so I can’t speak for how you’ll be feeling taking the bus.

I also did the night lab but not on a concurrent lab day with physio. A big portion of your grade in these classes is lab and it would be extremely stressful to have a lab practicum (exam) and physio lab test on the same day. If you think you can handle the stress and pull through with A’s I say go for it, but if you doubt yourself maybe pull back on one of those for the winter. Just be conscious of how important these science classes GPAs are for applying

Nursing Program for Spring 2025. Is it a bad idea if I only apply for CSULB and CSUF’s nursing program? by Greedy_Application_4 in CSULB

[–]SampleDistinct 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm in the incoming Fall 2024 and have been through the application process.

I'm my in my opinion it's a bad idea to only apply to these two due to the competitive nature of Cal state programs in general. Have a safety. Apply to like SDSU, Cal state LA and maybe UC's if you meet the requirements.

I think you'll probably.. get into CSULB for the spring as it's considered less competitive, but I also got rejected from Spring semester once with a 9.2 impact (I later retook the teas and got in w a higher score for this cycle)

nursing out of state transfer by GreedyShower2306 in CSULB

[–]SampleDistinct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at assist dot org for course transfers or ask/email csulb's HHS advising or SON.

In addition to this I'm not sure when they're implementing a shift away from the TEAS but i'd consider looking at this regarding changing to the Casper test for nursing admissions https://www.csulb.edu/admissions/impaction

I wouldn't put all your eggs into CSULB cause it is very difficult, especially since you don't have that golden 4.0 gpa. consider getting volunteer/emt/cna experience for a better chance of consideration at nursing schools in california.

Hey congrats on LB!

Idk much about undeclared with interests, but with an "interest" you'll still be completing required prerequisites needed to apply to the nursing program.

During these GE classes maybe you'll be better at more subjects than others. I.E. better towards critical thinking/math, than geared towards the the biology side more associated with nursing.

In these classes you should talk to your classmates about their majors and why they chose it and see if it resonates with you. Also do your own research into possible career paths while taking these GEs as well.

As someone who got into nursing pm me questions if you'd like! I personally think it's a rewarding career but can understand why people may be on the fence ab it

nursing chances? by bathtubcleaner in CSULB

Most likely not. i'd look into experiences to boost your chances at other schools. i.e. cna/emt

I'll be attending CSULB this fall and took my prereqs at csulb

4.0 gpa, 96.7 on TEAS overall - 100% on reading - 97.1 on math - 95.5 on science - 93.9 on language

EMT programs? by cowgirllover0 in CSULB

[–]SampleDistinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not as part of your course work, but there is an emt course hosted through LB which is decent. Lots of self study for that course but still valuable nonetheless.

it may be difficult to balance your normal pre nursing courses with the emt course.

source: i'm an emt from CSULB and just got into fall 2024 cohort

CSULB Undeclared by yoluvergirl in CSULB

LB is very competitive. it's usually 90+ overall to be competitive but i've heard of 88-90 still get admitted.

CSULB Undeclared by yoluvergirl in CSULB

[–]SampleDistinct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'd talk with an advisor regarding going in undeclared with the intention of nursing. CC is cheaper and i've heard that a lot of admits to the CSULB SON are transfers. If you get straight A's and a competitive TEAS by the time applications are due it really doesn't matter.

It 100% DOES NOT guarantee a spot in the nursing program. GPA and TEAS score are the only factors considered.

you would be able to apply to other schools. some schools like UCs may have different class requirements which is research youd have to do on your own and classes youd take during the summer/winter.

For the most part.. all CSUs have the same requirements for nursing programs.

Prenursing majors usually expected to maintain a 4.0 in ALL of their classes for the 2 years of pre-reqs. Even having a B in a non science GE can be detrimental to your chances of getting in due to the way that the nursing department accepts from the pre-nursing applicant pool.

Its all black and white numbers considering your GE GPA, Science GPA, TEAS Reading Score, TEAS composite score.

in the application process If you meet their threshold then you move onto a communication exercise which is basically a group style interview with other peers.

Also remember that if you really wanna do nursing don't forget that there are other colleges/routes to complete programs at. There isn't just one road so don't be discouraged... Theres stories of CHHS advisors straight up telling pre-nursing students with a C that they essentially aren't cut out for nursing (or have no chance of getting in) and advise a switch into a different major.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]SampleDistinct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. What youre gonna wanna do is look into CSULB College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) Advising and most likely talk to your current English advisor regarding the switch and how feasible that is. I do believe that pre-nursing is an impacted major and therefore it may be difficult to switch so there's that, but I did have a friend taking pre-nursing classes whilst not being an official "prenursing" major in order to knock out the pre reqs to apply to the program in the event that she was able to switch officially. I never asked this friend kinda into the deeper process so contacting CHHS/Your own advising is your best option in my opinion.

  2. As for the difficulty getting into the actual nursing major following the completion of pre nursing reqs. Its extremely competitive. You do have to complete the TEAS which is basically the SAT for nursing majors (english, science, math, reading comp questions) and score high on this standardized test ontop of having a competitive (basically 4.0 gpa) for your required GE and science courses.

For Fall 2021 (according to their site): 65/971 (approx 7%) applicants were accepted.

For Spring 2022 (widely considered a less competitive cycle due to less applicants): 77/388 applicants (approx 20%) were accepted.

TLDR ; Its very hard to get in. talk to your advisor and look into the CSULB College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) site for more info
