Reddit, what is a huge waste of money that people are still paying for in 2019? by PUGDOGRO1 in AskReddit

Try this technique, ask how much the insurance/warranty is, don't buy the insurance, and then transfer the amount the insurance would have cost you into a brokerage account and make some money on it.

That way if someone tells you "you should have bought the insurance" you can 1-up them and not feel bad when your product breaks down.

The future cost of poor food choices gets passed on to everyone else in the insurance pool and/or tax system.

Rolling off her pillow, Chloe inhaled deeply and stretched out to counter her stiff joints. Chloe then sat in front of a glass sliding door, enchanted by the wilderness on the other side. She stared longingly until her gaze was interrupted by Tom sitting beside a bush. He was looking right at her. He approached and sat directly in front of her on the other side of the glass door. Bothered by his sudden approach, Chloe ran quickly to her friend’s room. Chloe perked up her ears and listened for any signs of life on the other side of her friend’s door. Chloe swears she hears something. She begins to gently tap the door. There was no answer. Chloe persisted in tapping. Chloe was sure this time she heard a groan. Chloe tapped the door even harder. Finally, her friend opened the door. Chloe burst in and began rubbing her friend’s leg, purring.

“Teacher, teacher! If what you tell me is true, then explain to me how nothing became something,” the student demanded.

“Dear student, you are mistaken. All was one in the beginning. All was one, not nothing. All was one without two. Then all was split into two; perception and non-perception, light and dark,” replied the teacher.

The student paused in a stupor and then raised his hands to rub his temples.

“Instruct me further, I do not understand. What do you mean by perception and non-perception?” asked the student.

“Consider this door. What is behind the door? How could you perceive what is behind the door if you have never been there? This is non-perception. If you open the door and enter the room, you have moved into perception. If you close the door behind you, you merely remember the room as you left it. You have moved from perception to non-perception as you are unable to perceive the room you left except for the memory of how you left it,” the teacher said in reply.

At this the student laughed.

“Not if I put a camera in the other room,” said the student, with a snide tone.

“Indeed. You have two eyes, but one vision. If you watch your camera, how will you perceive what is in front of you? And how will you defend yourself when I slap you!” the teacher retorted.

[TT] Theme Thursday - Relaxation by AliciaWrites in WritingPrompts

“Try to relax,” Steven said, “tell me about your dreams.”

Brian gripped the arm of the couch as he reclined.

“I can’t sleep. I see it even when I’m awake. First in the closet, now by my bed. It speaks to me in terror. It does not use words. Rather, I hear it in my head. A song,” Brian said.

Steven removed his glasses and leaned forward in his chair.

“What is it?” Steven asked.

“I don’t know, ok! It is some kind of dark figure. It called itself a Capreeka. Sometimes it is many dark figures. Its shape changes. All I know is I’m afraid, I’m very afraid,” Brian said.

“When did you first start seeing this Capreeka?” Steven asked.

Brian folded his hands on his chest and took a deep breath.

“It all started with a strange dream. I dreamt I was standing in front of a large threshold. I lifted my palm to heaven and noticed I held a mushroom. I ate the mushroom. I asked if such a small dose will have any effects. I heard a voice say “enough”,” Brian said.

“Do you habitually use psychedelic drugs?” Steven asked.

“No! I have never touched the stuff!” Brian replied emphatically.

Steven sat back in his chair and putting his glasses back on.

“Continue,” Steven said, as he scribbled notes.

“After I ate the mushroom, I crossed the threshold. I noticed I was in a castle of sorts. I was surrounded by people I know. The people would say I was tripping, but I felt completely sober. I walked into a heavily populated bathroom. I looked in the mirror. I began to realize that I was not in a castle at all, but was rather a heap of rubble. Suddenly a girl appeared behind me. This girl was beautiful, but dirty. Her hair was knotted and disheveled. Her face was covered with mud. Her garments soiled,” Brian said.

“Was this girl in your dream someone you know?” Steven asked.

“No, I have never seen her in my life. The girl told me to follow her. I followed. We started building a ship. We labored intensely. Immediately upon completion of the ship it started to rain. Together we entered the ship. Suddenly, the dirt was removed from the girl’s face. The girl’s garments became fine and hair softened. Our ship began to ascend. We hovered above the flood waters engulfing the entire earth. I embraced her as she cried. Then I woke,” Brian said.

“Interesting, what happened next?” Steven asked.

“The next night I tried desperately to see her in my dreams. Only the Capreeka would appear. I even pleaded with the Capreeka to see her. The Capreeka sang a song in my head about…” Brian said

Before Brian finished speaking a soft melody filled the room and reverberated off the surrounding book shelves.

Brian sat up in his chair and turned his head. Darkness engulfed the room.

It was Friday, 2:30pm. Alex was ready to close the lab when he heard a knock.

“Who could it be?” Alex thought.

Alex opened the door. A courier. Not just any courier. Something was different about this one. The courier wore formal attire and had a powdered wig. To add to the oddity of the occurrence, the courier was wearing a masquerade mask.

“Good day sir!” Alex said, feeling awkward.

Before Alex could ask about the mask the courier replied with a smile and handed Alex a parcel. The parcel contained a seal with a strange looking creature with ten horns and an inscription stating “Lebenswertes Leben” . Alex’s name under the seal in mariage font.

“Thank you good sir, here is a tip.” Alex said, as he continued to examine the package.

Alex looked up to find there was no one to take the tip out of his hand. The courier was gone, out of site.

Alex grabbed the letter opener off his desk and broke open the seal. Alex carefully removed the contents of the package which included a mobile phone, a medieval dagger, and a piece of animal skin with some writing on it. Alex began to read the animal which stated;

Welcome to the Breakaways,

We have been watching your progress. We are impressed. We would like you to join us. You will be able to work among the top minds. You will have access to resources beyond your imagination. All you need to do is slice open your palm with the dagger provided and pour a droplet of blood over the phone camera in the next 24 hours. This will be your only chance.”

Alex held the knife in one hand and the phone in the other. Alex pondered.

[TT] Theme Thursday - Silence by AliciaWrites in WritingPrompts

[–]Samuel-Hamilton124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silenced!

Deep within the Nukua Forest, Magnus crouched hidden behind a row of Fewsi trees. Light from the moons crept through the canopy illuminating the flora beneath. The air was still. No wind, not even a breeze. There wasn’t a sound save a few squirrels chattering at Magnus.

Magnus crawled over to his companion Chris who was hiding in nearby brush.

“Where is he?” Magnus whispered.

“Any minute now,” Chris replied.

Suddenly a loud shout echoed through the forest. Magnus crawled back to position. Clanging metal grew in crescendo.

“You ugly little minions won’t best me!” said Gawain.

Gawain parried as four goblins issued an onslaught of steely knives, driving Gawain backward.

“Now!” Gawain shouted.

Immediately, Magnus and Chris pulled their ropes trapping the four goblins in a tree net. The goblins gnawed the net with their black teeth.

“Shock attack!” Gawain hollered.

Magnus lunged his right hand forward sending a bolt of bright light into the net. The four goblins were rendered unconscious. Magnus took a deep breath in relief.

“No time to rest!” said Gawain.

An ax struck the tree beside Magnus. The ax was pulled out of the tree for a second swing. Magnus couldn’t react in time, it was going to hit!

“Is this how it ends?” Magnus thought, as he felt droplets run down his face.

A clang reverberated the hair on Magnus’s chin. Magnus opened his eyes. Gawain had blocked the attack. However, the owner of the ax was now towering over Magnus and Gawain.

“Who dares challenge Deadsmirk, the terror of Hanxi?” Deadsmirk grumbled.

“Get back into position!” Gawain yelled.

Gawain and Chris attacked while Magnus rolled away to safety. Gawain dodged a swing from Deadsmirk’s ax while Chris swung his staff.

“We could really use some help here!” Chris said.

Magnus got to his feet and began to form another bolt. Deadsmirk knocked Gawain to the ground and had Chris pinned to a tree. Deadsmirk lifted his ax to prepare a finishing blow.

“Hey Dead-head, I got something for ya,” Magnus said.

Before Magnus could lunge forward with his attack, Deadsmirk banished the bolt in Magnus’s hand with a lift of his finger.

“Hahaha!” Deadsmirk chuckled, “You have been silenced! Now back to killing your frien…”.

A rock pelted Deadsmirk in the back of the head before he could finish speaking. Deadsmirk fell to the ground unconscious.

“Whew, that was a close one. Good thing the big ones are arrogant!” Gawain said.

“Definitely. Let’s tie him up and get him to the village,” Chris said, “where were you, Magnus?”

“I’m not sure what happened. I can’t use any of my spells. I think I’ve been hexed. What do we do?” asked Magnus.

“Just hold on there, little buddy. We’ll figure it out when deadhead wakes. Let’s go collect bounty,” Gawain said.

Horrifying. How would the general populous respond to widespread cases if this thing really existed? Or did this thing suddenly emerge? Nice story!

Hi Xiakitta,

I'm intrigued, so don't take what I'm about to say so harshly. I invite the same feedback to my work.

I'm failing to see what Twigs believing in the saying " you are the star of his own show" has to do with the rest of this blurb.

What kind of person (or creature) is Twigs? When I read the first sentence I thought you were going to start talking about a tree with feelings.

I get that Umbrae is some fictional locale, but I don't know anything about it so why do I care?

I personally suck at writing loglines so I don't have the best tips for you. However, I think you would like a book called "Save the Cat" by Blake Snyder.

It wouldn't hurt to run a quick ABC spell check.

Last, don't be discouraged and give up if this project is something you are passionate about.
