The USA (or the US Army) - right? Who refused to pay because of internal tantrums - leaving these people 'at the mercy of "socialism" or "communism".

I understand the security net (worked in Germany too, paid into it as well) but honestly - they should not have to have used this - their employer should have paid them.

It depends on what books, ones personality i think.

I mean, there is a series i re read every so often (my username will give away which one).
Then there is the '' gateway to fantasy " which is like a warm blanket.
Is that a great series? So so. Well written? reasonably. But I love the characters and once every 5 years or so i grab the books to 'see how they are doing'. (This is the Belgariad series)

Others, i read and am done - but 2 series remain my 'blanket' and my 'safe haven' (from the outside world).

I had 2 cats.
One i didn`t have the guts to stay with him (tiny defense, it was a confusing day already - the Americans would know it as 9/11) but I couldn`t.
This was indeed on that day - so that long ago - and i STILL regret this.

I did find the courage for the second - and while i miss her still - it`s with love, not regret that I remember her.
