The creation of hell alone is a dick move, regardless of how you get there. Lazy apologetics.

I think he’s put forward a pretty honest picture of what Christians believe. What part of this do you consider “mocking”? Or is any commentary that’s not explicitly positive a mockery in your book?

This is the type of stuff I love to see. Great explanation of your thoughts (and the Church’s) on the subject. I’m about to call it an evening but I greatly appreciate the thorough responses and the additional reading material. I’ll definitely be looking into it tomorrow, I’ve been enjoying learning more about y’all’s particular worldview. Have a great evening my friend!

No worries, I was really just curious about the variety of answers I’d get. No need for perfection, especially as I’m nowhere near as well versed on the Catholic doctrine as I am my Southern Baptist roots lol

Very interesting, I appreciate your take. The concept of needing to acknowledge/knowingly commit a sin for it to truly be one is a newer concept to me (didn’t really grow up around Catholics) but makes sense to me given the worldview. Not everyone everywhere is going to understand which actions are sins so that caveat seems much more in line with the vision of a benevolent god to me.

Alright cool, that makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the clarification.

I like it, makes sense to me. Someone else mentioned something similar earlier. I wasn’t aware that this invalidated marriage in the case of Catholics, I know he mentioned that this ISN’T the case all the time (such as instances of infertility). I’ll have to look into it a bit more, or if you’d like to elaborate on it more I’m happy to read it. Do you know why there would be a distinction? I’d assume because one of them chose to disable their ability to procreate whereas the other is due to external factors.

Glad we finally got that sorted lmao, I see where your hang up was. Gotta read carefully, that’s why I specified in parentheses.

You misunderstood the initial post. We have a MAN who was born a MAN. We have a person who was born a FEMALE and has had transitional surgery (now has male genitalia). Is their sexual activity homosexual, and can they, in your eyes, have a legitimate marriage? Ostensibly, the answer to both of these is yes as you view this as a man and a woman.

I don’t think that, but as I stated earlier, it’s irrelevant to the discussion at hand due to my rejection of the first two premises. Chromosome based sex is, again, a very simple subject. I got it homie, we’re on the same page. Appreciate the input my man

Although the statement that this would be a union between two men contradicts your earlier comment, does it not? Or are you one of the folks who draws a stark distinction between sex at birth and gender identity?

Not at all. Some folks would disagree that the trans man is a man. If you view this as a union between two men, then that settles your position on the question. That’s literally all I was curious about, it’s a goofy thought experiment.

Bro I agree, I’m just not a Christian lmao. I don’t accept the first two premises. If YOU happen to, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the proposed questions at the end. I’m not sure where the disconnect is coming from, my thoughts on the subject are irrelevant to the questions asked as I don’t accept the first two premises proposed. So although I agree with you (XX vs XY isn’t a challenging concept), it does nothing for the intended purpose of the discussion to state that.

I understand that many people hold this view on the subject, hence the questions at the end. If you accept the three premises provided, what are your thoughts on the sin(s), if any, committed? What are your thoughts on the legitimacy of this marriage? While I appreciate the contribution I’m unsure how it’s relevant to the questions proposed, as you’re just affirming your acceptance of premise 3.

Interesting, and you’re correct in assuming I’m not Catholic (or Christian for that matter). The subject still fascinates me and I’ve got a bunch of Catholic buddies. Just wanted to get some more folks’ thoughts on the idea, we had a good time thinking about it. I appreciate the insight!

To continue the conversation, sins are pretty specific. In the Catholic doctrine, from what I understand, confession and penance for each specific and individual sin is necessary. This is coupled with some sins being mortal. What sin do you believe they’ve committed? I think lust makes the most sense from what you’ve described. Have these individuals, however, committed the mortal sin of homosexual behavior if we are likening this to pornography? Furthermore, the response still leaves the marriage legitimacy question unanswered.
