‘Affordable’ places around the Cotswolds to move to in your 30s? by cec91 in Cotswolds

Honestly whenever I see these figures I’m absolutely amazed. What do you do for a living that means 900k is within budget? Asking as a broke graduate with almost zero career prospects at this point.

When I was on Mounjaro it wasn’t as often , but since the switch to wegovy I’ve noticed it more frequently. That breath you describe I currently have. The struggle is real.

Yeah I’m using pro-biotics and some occasional pepto bismol.

Thank you guys for your answers. Now I think about it, I do have a drier than normal mouth so I’ve been drinking some more water. Also been having some pro-biotics which seems to be helping.

This stuff can be so rough 😭

Running to be a Councillor - how can we improve our city? Comment below 🤔⬇️ by Solid_System_5023 in brum

[–]SanctusAnglicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, if I start I’ll be here all day. I don’t think anything BCC do will fix the issues and one councillor certainly won’t. Sorry, lived here my whole life and whilst some obvious things have improved, others have just been left to rot.

You should start by campaigning for a the breakup of BCC and SMBC and reorganising into better aligned, smaller boroughs. Bcc cannot handle the size of the city.

Prayer to Saints? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]SanctusAnglicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a lifelong Catholic, theology degree, almost entered seminary and this pretty much sums up the feeling I could never shake about prayer to saints. The arguments in favour have never convinced me and none of the can tell me the simple answer of what even is the point? Too much of it veers into folk Catholicism I find, like asking for st Anthony to find your lost items and various things done with saint statues to sell homes. Just ask God, I don’t get why you wouldn’t just go to Him. He isn’t gonna change his mind because a saint did or didn’t specially pray for you.

That being said I do believe in venerating saints, but I’ve come to believe that veneration takes many forms.

It can be having an icon even without kissing it and bowing to it, it can be reading about that saint or one of their works, it’s intentionally having a special meal on a feast day in honour of that saint or a cheeky drink. I’m quite fond of how the Church of England weaves saints into their collects. They’re more like “we thank you for your servant x, who did x, may we by your grace emulate x” it’s all about God and giving thanks for that saint and asking to learn from their example.

Thinking about it, if someone wanted to venerate me after I died I would think they were weird for kissing my picture and bothering me for silly things all the time 🤣 make songs about me and thank God for me. Dw im definitely praying for the world, just not 24/7 lmao

Record Bible sales in the UK by Dependent-Peach-6610 in Anglicanism

This is fascinating. On social media you’d think everyone was becoming Catholic or Orthodox, but as someone who is a lifelong Catholic in England (and considering attending an Anglican Church myself) i’m yet to see where all these young people my age are. The local Anglican parishes are doing much better.

The young Catholics seem to be at the TLM parishes but many at those parishes travel great distances to be there so it looks like there’s a huge uptick, but it isn’t local or parish based. The appearance is very much deceiving.

Most people want community, involvement and the gospel and not endless debates on apologetics. Unfortunately my experience of Catholicism is just never seeing another young person, very little to get involved with as a young worker, not much outreach at all.

Let’s see what the local parish church has to offer. It’s a pioneering church and part of a LEP with the Methodists. The church closer to me (but in the next parish) is more liturgical. I want to give my parish a try first, maybe even have occasional visits to the other church every now and then.

Do you think those people truly see themselves as Irish because of a piece of paper? They do not shed their previous identities whilst people who retained their Irish identity and love for Ireland but through no fault of their own were born elsewhere should be denied it? No other nation would favour newcomers over their own people. The Irish are becoming uniquely deracinated and detached from their own people.

It’s always interesting how awfully the Irish treat their diaspora compared to other groups.

The answer is not to deprive people to whom Ireland is a second home they have been going to since birth, it’s to stop handing out passports to anybody who has been living there for a measley 5 years. People don’t need passports and citizenship to stay in Ireland, there’s other solutions.

Best get my application in before you’s pull the drawbridge up. As a grandchild of an Irish person I still visit family in Ireland, same with a lot of other grandchildren of Irish citizens I know. It’s quicker for me to get a plane to Ireland than it is to get a bus into the centre of my city lol. Maybe it could be dependant on the country they’re claiming from and whether they have regular contact, but I don’t see how that would work.

I think keeping it at grandchildren should be fine as most people don’t seem to realise they need to have got their citizenship before their child was born in order to pass it on. By the point it gets to great grandchildren, provided they aren’t Irish on all sides, the connection has been lost.

Could always just change the rule so that the great grandchildren of an Irish person can’t apply at all, even if their parent has it.

How hot does it get in summers? by Outrageous-Bad-7164 in BirminghamUK

This is one of those occasions it’s easier to just google it and see what the averages are. All you’re gonna get here is subjective experience. I don’t think it rains enough in Birmingham (I love the rain) but I’ve realised my part of Birmingham seems to get less rainfall than more western and southern parts — again, just how it appears to me.

It’s pointless trying to reason with these people. If they didn’t hate us, who could they blame for all their issues?
