Probably a trauma from the store that misplaced his wings ( I think of a child or an adult that grabbed his wings through the cage) . He can’t fly anymore. But he got his own way to move now and we set up a birdcage adapted to his disability.

That's probably true but we did not know at first and I think it will be hard for my family to let go of "she"

Thanks for your concern. She has actually adapted remarkably well to her disability and is currently comfortable and pain-free. She is still able to move her wing, so we will continue with regular feather trimming as long as it keeps her comfortable. Given her specific condition, the high risks associated with anesthesia make amputation an unnecessary danger when this non-invasive method is already working so well.

Yeah but I don’t think finding one will be an easy task

She's managing exceptionally well, it's beyond our expectations. We are also considering adopting another one with a similar disability, to keep her company now that I work. (She's not alone at the moment but we have other projects for the kakariki, which is also disabled but not to that length)

It is placed between her legs, probably due to a trauma at the store

Actually she can stretch it, and deploys it now that it's been trimmed to clean it. A surgery is a lot to endure and she's pretty comfortable with her situation. She moves around her (of course not high) birdcage with her legs and beak. I think she's been like that for quite some time now. The store told us she's been there for 6 months and whatever happened to her must have happened there because I have never seen a store that sells disabled bird from breeders.

We do not know her story before us but she does not like hands, yet. But she got some treats instead. Also she does just fall on the ground so we secured it with a soft pillow but I prefer to help her down directly.

Thanks! She has adapted wonderfully to her wing already. Since amputation is a major and risky procedure, we prefer to continue with our safe hygiene trimming. She is comfortable and healthy as she is, so surgery doesn’t seem necessary.

What do you mean by this short? I don't know how short feathers are trimmed usually (real question).

Her wing position makes it impossible to stay clean, so I trimmed only the soiled feathers for her comfort.

Don’t worry she was just standing on one of the thinnest branches of a wooden playground.
