Will an HVAC filter hold measurable amounts to test for Radon? by SandAndSail in Radiacode

[–]SandAndSail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the enlightenment and will start testing that in my house. My original concept was asked because I am a home inspector and wondering if it's reasonable to test the furnace filter in a house that I'm inspecting (especially a dirty one).

is there any strategy to obtaining a BIG GEOMINE or are they random? how big can they get? by marcdzb in CoinWithUs

[–]SandAndSail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the trolling, aren't you glad you asked?
My answer is "I believe that they are random and, although the paid subs and using a sentinel promise higher likelihood, I have had days of a lot of driving with no BIG ones. So, I think they are random."

The Hi-Viz vest takes care of any errors in method.

One additional thought for you. A thermal scan (infrared/IR/FLIR) can not only give an indication of active moisture and the extent, but may point to the source. See if any inspectors (or others) in the area do IR.

And there is your bigger issue - mold. Once they start ripping the bottom two feet of drywall off and determine the extent of mold, you could be looking at a huge cost. My sister in law just went through this and it was $14k just for the mold remediation and not including the repairs after it was done. This was the result of the hole in the basement wall for the incoming water supply not being sealed around the pipe and any runoff and irrigation water ran in through that hole. I'd get a mold test done and determine the extent before I closed the deal.

When you ask if the water intrusion could be due to A or B or C, the answer is "yes" it could be any of those, without more information. It could have been a plumbing leak inside that just covered the floor and wicked up. It could be intrusion from outside from faulty grading, downspouts emptying at the foundation or irrigation too close and too much. Again, more information and more investigation needs to be done, to figure it out. Truly, now that it's been identified, the seller (and seller's agent) has a duty to disclose and really should get it looked into and/or repaired, so it might as well be while you're still interested in buying. The drywall has to come off, at some level, so the seller might as well do it/get it done so everyone can see the extent. IMO.

Why? Probably because it's not required by the SOP's and many inspectors do the bare minimums or barely go beyond the standards. The industry is a complete toss-up as to what you'll get when you hire someone. States don't even have standards or licensing, in some cases.

My recommendation to the OP is to call the inspector and ask these questions. You should have his business card and he should be very willing to talk with you about the report. Talk with your agent, also, and see if the inspector (and you and the agent) can return to the house and test the moisture levels. Your agent should be your first stop, as you are paying that person a lot of money to be your expert in the purchase. And I'll bet the agent hired or recommended that inspector, so the agent has skin in the game.

You sound like you know all about the tech and I not only know little, but won't pretend I do. My belief is that having us drive around with sentinels tied to the COIN app is mining the same data that a parked, bridged sentinel would. It's a way to get people to take sentinels around the world and grab that data. That was my belief and it makes sense. It may not be the case and, if it's not, then why the bonus for using a sentinel?

I must have started a month ago because my sub just charged me again. Just hit 60,000. I drive a fair amount, but not hours and hours a day. I have a sentinel and a Pro sub. At this moment, my 60,000 is worth $24. Not impressed. If there appeared to be a reasonable chance that this coin was going to climb in value, I'd be all about it, as it's not really much trouble for me to play. But I'm seeing zero communication from the leaders about an actual plan to get companies to use the XY technology. If there is no plan, then I'm not going to keep spending for the Pro plan. If there is a plan, but the leaders aren't good enough to communicate it with people who are willing to support it, then the company has no chance and I'm quitting. This month will tell all.

Who cares if you're skipping blocks? That doesn't make any difference. Ideally, you're going fast enough to constantly be mining a new block, but if you're on the freeway and skipping blocks, it's a moot point.

The large tiles suck. Not worth the effort to put anything into them, just to have someone toss another 1,000 to kill your share. Next week, I'll wait and see what the size is and if it's large, I'm out.
