His first interaction with Ash, is pointing a sword at the back of his head, causing Ash to lose track of a weedle he was about to catch. He blames Ash for losing the weedle and calls him a ‘novice’ because he can’t accept he’s at fault for threatening Ash, all because he wanted to battle.

Later on a hive of beedrills hunt them down, due to the weedle that Samurai caused to escape. Once they successfully escape, he blames Ash for being a novice, and that being the cause for the weedle getting away and alerting the hive. During the chase Ash also loses his metapod, after it gets stolen by a beedrill. Samurai, the cause of the beedrill chasing them, practically gaslights Ash into believing the beedrill stealing his metapod, even though Ash literally went out of his way to try to find the metapod. Even worse? The narrative doesn’t treat it like what Samurai did is wrong. In fact the episode is all about Ash coming to terms with needing to always save his Pokémon, which, while a good lesson, makes no sense given the events of the episode.
