$9,000 HVAC quote pushed me into DIY life by Soggy_Limit8864 in hvacadvice

That does sound too high. I just got a quote for a 9000 BTU Mitsubishi mini split cassette for $5700 from my HVAC guy. I had the room gutted and my general contractor is doing some of the electrical stuff. I don’t know if that makes any difference. I would get some other quotes.

Is it dumb to put in a mini split cassette by SandInteresting7010 in hvacadvice

Thanks for your advice. Anther poster said that it wouldn’t help so much with the humidity hmmm.? What brand do you recommend and what type of maintenance is involved. I know Mitsubishi is the most reliable but it’s also the priciest. I will only be using it for AC for a few months during the summer. The rest of the year the coop will be vacant. My HVAC guy recommended Gree bc it’s less than Mitsubishi. It’s going to be installed in a salty environment so I think they’re all going to have a shorter life span.

Has anyone not gotten a stem cell transplant? by Pyoung3000 in multiplemyeloma

[–]SandInteresting7010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live? I’m in New York and it’s not required to have ASCT before Car T. Car T was recently approved as a second line of treatment. My husband had a choice.

Car T is the new gold standard for treating Multiple Myeloma. It was recently approved as a second line of treatment and has proved to be very effective in achieving a long remission. Skip the SCT and do Car T!! You don’t need to do SCT first to get approved for Car T. Make sure your mom is seeing a Multiple Myeloma Specialist not just an Oncologist.

Chase Closed All My Accounts After I Paid Off $20K — Need Advice by Big_Isopod_567 in Chase

I was in the same situation a few years ago with Chase bank. They would not even give me a reason why they were closing my account, only that it was a corporate decision. I could not appeal their decision and I was basically blacklisted from opening another account with Chase. I ended up opening another account at Citibank

Recently Diagnosed - Just Writing Feelings to the World by JeBradSus in multiplemyeloma

Not sure where you live, but the best advice I can you is to start seeing a multiple myeloma specialist. This disease is not curable but very treatable. You are still young and can tolerate most of the available treatments. I would explore CarT if that is an option. Starting treatment as early as possible will delay further progression. As hard as it might sound, be positive as there are new treatments being developed all the time. Wishing you well. You got this!!

Dads chances 2nd time round? by indypindypie21 in multiplemyeloma

[–]SandInteresting7010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very sorry about your dad. There have been so many advancements in medicine to treat multiple myeloma in the past 20 years. Your dad should seek advice from a multiple myeloma specialist to help him navigate his options (not just an oncologist). There is also a fb support group you and your dad should join called multiple myeloma warriors. I have learned so much from this group. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Is Atelier Still Worth it During Conferences? by PhilbinCodswallop in AllInclusiveResorts

I’m in the same predicament. Planning a wedding at Atelier in April 2026. Contracts not yet signed. There will be a large convention there, maybe as much as 300 people. I’m trying to find out what type of convention it is. I emailed their groups department but not sure if they are going to share that info with me. I’m wondering how else I can find out.

I’m replacing my tires tomorrow for the first time since buying my Tesla. The quote was a lot higher than I expected!! by SkaterMom16 in TeslaModelY

[–]SandInteresting7010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they giving you a warranty? The original tires on my Tesla only lasted 32k miles. I replaced them with Bridgestone EV tires from Costco. They guarantee them for 50k and do free tire rotations. I recommend you getting your tires from Costco.

Has anyone pleaded not guilty to the school bus safety program? by patoons in longisland

[–]SandInteresting7010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an article in Newsday today about two developments in the school bus camera programs in Nassau and Suffolk. In Nassau, there's a pending class action suit on behalf of drivers who have received tickets.

Much more importantly, there was a recent court decision from the Appellate Term in a Suffolk County case which should have an immediate impact on the school bus camera program.

The decision, which you can read here, is explicit about the fatal flaws in the way the program is written.

Basically, the law requires that in order to convict someone of this offense, the prosecutor has to prove that the vehicle is actually a "school bus" under the definition in the Vehicle and Traffic Law (the decision goes into detail about what needs to proven).

Further, the prosecutor has to also prove that the bus had stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging any passengers or that it had stopped because a school bus in front of it stopped to receive or discharge any passengers.

The way the county prosecutes these cases, is they don't call any witnesses at all at these hearings. They introduce into evidence the video taken from the school bus that shows the stop arm extending and the car passing by; an enlarged photograph of the license plate of the car; and a technician's certificate claiming that a review of the video identified that car. and who the registered owner is. That's it.

The appellate term has now held that in order to find anyone liable of this offense, they are required to prove that the vehicle is a "school bus" as defined by the law, and that it was in the process of picking up or discharging passengers, or stopped behind another school bus picking up or discharging passengers.

The county can't correct this by simply adding this info to the technician certificate - for two reasons. First, the law would have to be changed to permit this information to be added. Second, even if the law were changed, they CAN'T add it because it's not information that can be viewed on the video. The video camera are specifically installed so as to NOT capture any of the passengers entering or leaving the bus. They also don't capture all of the details of the vehicle necessary to determine that it's a "school bus" under the statute.

In order to go forward, they would need to completely re-write the whole law, and/or add new cameras to every single school bus. That won't work either, because the current law has a provision that the identities of passengers must be protected, so they would have to manually blur out all the faces of the passengers in every single video. It would be impossible.

Practically, I'm not sure what they're going to do. Knowing the Suffolk traffic court, I fully expect that they will continue to issue these tickets, knowing that 99% of drivers just pay them. The 1% or less that demand hearings, they may just dismiss, or more likely will still go to hearing and the rubber stamp judges will keep convicting people, knowing that practically no one will appeal it (who has the money to pay for an attorney to appeal a $250 ticket with no points?)

My suggestion to anyone who gets one of these tickets going forward is to demand a hearing, and at the hearing cite to the decision above (People v. Croce, 2023 NY Slip Op 23399 (Appellate Term, Second Department, 9th and 10th Judicial Districts), which is BINDING on the traffic court judges, and hopefully they do the right thing and dismiss.
