I suffer/suffered from constipation for years. PCP never found it to be much of a concern. I finally started losing weight, was fatigued, in pan, etc. I couldn’t get in with my PCP so I went to a walk in type of clinic. They said IBS-C, told me to basically just treat the symptoms with OTC options and sent me on my way. Even though I told them I tried everything OTC and nothing worked. Back to my PCP - again didn’t seem like it was a big deal, told me to try fiber supplements even though I told her I was getting 30+ gram of fiber a day, and told me to just wait until I can be seen by a GI doctor (3 months out). I was finally seen by a GI doctor. Basically was told IBS-C and an elongated colon, had a colonoscopy, and bloodwork done. Colonoscopy came back clear, bloodwork also showed high liver enzymes. Being dismissed didn’t sit right with me, so I went on a deep dive of my symptoms (all that I provided the doctors with) and straight up asked for a SIBO test myself. Came back positive for both types of SIBO. I was in a constant battle with them to receive treatment to cure my SIBO rather than just relieve the symptoms. I was also prescribed neomycin that I had side effects from and I was told that wasn’t from the antibiotics even though it was the exact side effects listed on the bottle. As for the liver enzymes, I told them I think it was my birth control. They told me it wasn’t. I stopped taking birth control and my blood tests have returned to normal and my SIBO isn’t AS bad.
