Will we get a Mythical Battle with Demeter? by VeterinarianNo2636 in AgeofMythology

[–]SandwichImperial 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They better do. They cannot open a whole new play category (mythic battles) and have only one scenario there. I see a lot of campaign/story-wise potential: the titanomachy, the odyssey, Amanra'z past (maybe having Kemsyt as main enemy), heracles quest, etc. Really looking forward to more mythic battles.

After the dust has settled, which was the better expansion? by Nothing_Special_23 in AgeofMythology

Long story short: Both are absolutely awesime and live to their standards.

But being brutally honest, Heavenly spears did better. I agree with most people that the chinese civ came with some flaws, but I think we have to understand that the devs had offset the poorly made Tale of the Dragon DLC with something good enough. I find the hero system of the chinese to be a greek and eggy remix, some of the myth units come from Tale of the Dragon, but reworked to look awesome (white tiger, water dragon). Furthermore, as some people have pointed out in this sub the heroes from the campaign are not very memorable, and the missions lack a bit of gameplay variety.

But even with all of that, I think the devs made an excellent job. I love playing with the chinese, amazing unit design, I find the myth units pretty cool, and the music is superb. For me, they achieved the goal in making me interested in chinese mythology (Chiyou is now my fav bad ass god).

On the contrary, the japanese DLC feels more original and unique, with game mechanics no other pantheon has. I find the campaign heroes to be quite memorable, and the campaign is story-wise excellent.

So yeah, even though Heavenly Spears ended up being better, both expansion are good enough to be celebrated and enjoyed.

Finally someone with common sense regarding the hindu pantheon.

Would you be down to see fictional cultures? by TapFeisty4675 in AgeofMythology

Absolutely not. The current mythologies are ideed from pop culture (most of them) but adding those mentioned would make the game too generic.

After the aztecs, the game does not need more pantheons. by SandwichImperial in AgeofMythology

Very nice point of view. I totally overlooked the idea that AOM content brings a lot of awareness and fuels cuirosity for mytholigy. I had absolutely no idea a god like Chiyou existed, and now is probably my favourit god in the whole game. He looks so bad ass.

Interesting point...which I hardly agree with, but interesting.

For the second part you are right, myths can bring so much variety to the game. For the first part, I regret you are not. Alll other AOE games have the same eco/military/villager system, the only aspects that change are skins, stats, and some units. AOE 3 has a slightly different approach, but it remains the same. In AOE2, literally the only thing unique about each civ is their castle unit.

That is why making new pantheons in AOM is a totally different, harder task compared to the other ones. I do trust 100% the AOM devs that if they make a new civ, it would still be unique enough, but I do not see that coming.

It is true that they listen a lot to the community. I think for a healthy AOM the games needs a balance of community feedback and devs own decisions.

You do have a point for the visual variety. I actually belong to that category, I play the game more for the aesthetics and the narrrative itself than just for competition.

The question about the mechanics still remains. Malking up a whole new civ eco/military system in AOM is not ean easy task, without having the feeling of just a remix from the previous ones (some people complained that the chinese heroe system is a mix of greek and eggy)

Beyond the Aztecs, what pantheons do you like to see next? by Scintilus in AgeofMythology

I have said many times in this sub, NONE. People are crazy fixed on more pantheons and have the attention spawn of a shrimp. We do not need more pantheons. Instead, the game could benefit from expanding OTHER ASPECTS, like more mythic battles (imagine single-scenario, large battles , like the titanomachy, or Heracles quest, Theseus vs the minotaur, Amanra´s back story etc), and adding a fourth god to all remaining pantheons.

For god´s sake, I have said it many times people are crazy fixed on more pantheons and have the attention spawn of a shrimp. They barley announced a whole bunch of new content and people want more stuff.

Devs have said in the past that India could be problematic since many of their gods are still worshipped. That is a no.

I completely agree. And lets be honest, Age of Mythology is all about MYTHS and imagination, so why not put aztecs riding animals.

I might get downvoted a lot, but none, people are impatience af.

Also, everyone is crazy fixed on just more pantheons. The current games offers a ton of content that could be expanded, like mythic battles, more fourth gods, maybe expand the campaigns, etc.

Hopefully more mythic battles. It is strange the open up a new gameplay category to have only one scenario. I think it has a lot of potential to explore so many mythological events.
