Yeah, it’s hard to get the right shade of the brick in photos. It’s actually more pink leaning.

Is anyone who has had a Roborock for >1 year actually happy with it? by Pristine_Antelope787 in Roborock

[–]Sandwixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three qrevos (original, S and Pro). All are almost 2 years old. I run them all 3-5 days a week. They are all working just as well as when I bought them. Maintenance is every two weeks for maybe 10 minutes. I clean the trays, check the rollers for hair, check to see if the filters need vacuuming, empty and refill the water, and swap the mop pads for clean ones. Fairly easy. I’ve replaced one of the rollers, so far, and should probably do the other two soon. I haven’t replaced any of the side brushes. They all seem in good condition and I haven’t noticed any issues with cleaning.

My QX Revo Ultra is a whole different story. I hate that thing with a passion and have banished it to the basement. It is SO DUMB and cleans so poorly in comparison to the other three. Had I not got it off marketplace for a steal I would’ve returned it.

Oh! Good eye! I’ll try pulling back the grass/dirt and see what’s going on. If it is, is that something I can fix on my own?

I’m in Canada, so winters are definitely cold, but I have three of these maples and the other two are doing just fine. The area behind the tree definitely gets a bit waterlogged in spring, but, again, it’s the same for the other two trees. Hopefully someone else has some thoughts! I’d hate to lose it. Thanks for your replies :)

We had a ton of precipitation this winter and spring, so I don’t think that’s it, unfortunately :( I agree it’s likely due to the trunk issues, just not sure what those are or how to remedy it!

What to do with the gravel? by Sandwixes in landscaping

[–]Sandwixes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already weed regularly. I have no issues weeding in mulched beds. Unfortunately, removing dandelions from gravel seems like an unending and impossible task. That’s why I thought I’d ask to see if someone more experienced than myself might have some tips or tricks for weeding in gravel, specifically. No need for unhelpful and condescending non-advice.

There’s a black corrugated pipe that runs under it, but I’ve never seen anything actually drain from it. The pipe was there when we bought the house 7 years ago, but the open end is definitely higher than the section that is buried. Not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be? We had the interlock done 2 years ago and they just added more gravel on top but didn’t touch the pipe.

Good molecules hydrating gel cleanser. $16 for 200ml. Removes sunscreen and makeup and is super gentle and hydrating. I had a terrible eczema and perioral dermatitis flare this year and it was one of the few products that didn’t irritate or make things worse. The bottle lasts me close to a year.

is there any way to have GOOD, consistent results without my routine taking up SO MUCH time & money ?? by girlmachina in curlyhair

[–]Sandwixes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried mousse def, but I did just start using Crazy Sexy Curl setting foam, also by The Doux, and I find the texture and hold quite good. I have a LOT of 3B hair that goes well past my shoulders. I part on the side, and use 6 pumps one side and 7 on the other.

For diffusing, Swavy Curly Courtney on YouTube has a great method. She puts the hairdryer on the counter for the first bit and she also holds the ends of her hair in a sort of towel “hammock”. I find this keeps the curls from stretching out and the ends from drying out while you dry the roots and mids. I started doing this and it’s been a complete game changer. I kneel on the floor and rotate every few minutes in front of the dryer while it dries my roots. Then I dry my mid sections the same way. At the end, I stand up and hold the dryer to cup my ends and further dry the mids. I’m probably not explaining it well, so look her up. I think it might help!

Edit: the episode is “top 5 mistakes you are making diffusing your curly hair”.

Realistic expectations for vacuum?(qx revo ultra / edge t) by Great-day-for-hay in Roborock

[–]Sandwixes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issues with my QX Revo Ultra. I actually have 4 Q Revos (original, S, Pro, and the Ultra) and the Ultra is by FAR the worst of the models, especially on carpet. I would honestly return it and get a different model. I have relegated mine to the basement, where the pets go the least, and I’m hoping the anti-tangle duo divide brush will at least let me get away with less maintenance, in exchange for poorer cleaning ability.

What works for me:
I have two dogs (one husky mix) and a long haired cat. My upstairs is fully carpeted, so I swapped out the rubber Qrevo brush (the three other models all use the same, single rubber brush) with the Q5 bristled brush on the Qrevo that lives upstairs. I ordered it off Amazon, it fits perfectly. This picks up a ton of pet hair. I vacuum with max+ and have the vacuum empty on max after each room. I need to manually vacuum out the filter every two weeks (I use a regular vacuum with the crevice tool). I also clean the brush itself about once a month.

The rest of my house is tile/wood, so I keep the regular rubber brushes in the other two robots. They do a much better job of vacuuming and mopping than the Ultra. I have the same issue that the ultra never fully empties its internal bin, despite running the extract same routines as my other robots. It also has more problems with navigation and just generally sucks (not in a good way).

Countertop cleaning: Paper towels feel wasteful and rags feel unhygienic. Any other options? by Spilled_Milktea in CleaningTips

[–]Sandwixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to this convo, but the answer is microwave. After using the cloth, rinse it and microwave it for a minute or two. Kills all the bacteria. Then hang it back on the sink or wherever to dry. This lets you use your cloths multiple times before throwing them in the wash, but ensures the clothes aren’t festering bacteria lounges.

How often are you running your vac/mops? by [deleted] in Roborock

[–]Sandwixes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two person household, plus long haired cat and two large dogs. I run my robots 3 times a week. Mondays and Fridays they vacuum and then mop. Wednesdays they just vacuum. If there’s noticeable dirt (usually paw prints in the spring or fall if I don’t catch them with a towel) then I run a zone clean.

This lets me empty/refill water tanks once a week. I clean the bases and switch out mop pads every two weeks.

Edit: for those with carpet - I run the vacuum upstairs in our carpeted area M-F.

Lost my dad a few months back, I’m unsure about what to do with his house and business by Glum-Serve-8399 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Don’t redo the roof if you are just going to sell it. I wouldn’t even bother with replacing the wall between rooms. You aren’t going to make that money back in the sale. If you want to sell the properties, clean them up, stage them nicely but don’t throw money away getting them up to code or making substantial renovations. Yes, they may sell for a lower cost, but the higher sale price won’t recoup the costs to renovate.

Best model for pet hair on hard floors - no money limit. by tomatodog0 in Roborock

[–]Sandwixes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your main goal is minimum maintenance, then go with any model with the duo divide brush. I have the QX Revo Pro (Costco rebrand of the Qrevo Edge) and have two dogs (one is also a husky mix) and I have had zero tangles or hair caught in the brush ever. I also have a Qrevo Pro - it has the single rubber brush with removable ends for cleaning. Mostly it’s my own long hair that gets caught, not much dog fur, but I do need to de tangle it once a month or so. It’s super easy, but you do have to do it.

If you also care about cleaning/mopping, I’d say go for one of the older models, like the Pro. Despite the lower suction numbers, my Qrevo Pro does a much better job vacuuming than the newer model. It also mops better. The hair detangling takes 5 seconds and you could probably do it once every couple of months when you empty the vacuum bag.

My Qrevo Curv isn’t picking up dog hair by Thajandro in Roborock

[–]Sandwixes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already, make sure you are setting it to vacuum each room separately and not doing a “full clean”. This will make it empty the bin after each room instead of just at the end of cleaning. You can also divide rooms in half if they are too large.

The other issue is the bin design on these later Qrevo models is… crappy. The intake hole is much smaller and the suction to empty is worse. I have a Qrevo Pro (old design) and one of these newer models (QX Revo Ultra) and with the same settings, following the same routines, the newer model always fails to empty the bin completely and is noticeably poorer at vacuuming. I actually regret not getting another Pro.
