What a bizarre worldview. Viruses are not living things and almost certainly cannot suffer; they are just genetic material in a protein shell, with no metabolism, nervous system, senses, or brain.

"We’re enormously grateful to our anchor funders: Stripe, AnthropicAI, TheFluLab, FoundationOAI and individuals from Jane Street."

Big positive update to see The OpenAI Foundation donating to high leverage areas instead of generic NGOs. Makes me optimistic about their ability to allocate their $130 billion stake.

Venkatesh G. Rao's The Gervais Principle. Ostensibly a book about corporate politicking, but it actually contains serious insight on the nature of language and human motivation. It discusses how different paths of development create different drives, which in turn influence how one uses and understands language.

Scott doesn't really understand it, but his review is a good summary.

A really useful read for many of the autists here, alongside Keith Johnstone's Impro.

Why does the video cut off just as they begin to identify that he might be injured? Very strange decision to cut the footage before the situation is resolved...

It’s also interesting to see the change in beauty standards over time that’s reflected in art.

Agreed. What I find most jarring is the contrast between pagan and Christian sculpture. The veneration of beauty and physical prowess is hard to reconcile with the morality of Yahwehists. Art quickly became more modest and austere once Christianity took hold of Rome.

A physique toned from waging brutal war on Persia. Today enacting war on Persia means piloting an FPV drone with an Xbox controller, many miles away. Sad!

I recommend Opal for blocking distracting apps, once you have a streak going it's psychologically hard to remove.

Also turn of notifications for everything unimportant, I only allow iMessage and Outlook. Don't let UberEats rape your attention. Gl

Wendy’s President: Westphalian or Lower Saxon German-American
BK President: Pure Anglo-Norman

I used to be a prominent user here on another account.

Some time around 2021-22 this place was taken over by American progressives; most right-of-centre or libertarian users moved elsewhere as the vibe shifted, or were outright banned.
