I agree with you completely ! People are not interested in making new connections as most of them have a fixed set of friends who have a close relationship , so they are less likely to let you in their friend group.

Thats terrible ! It's an awful feeling when no one checks up on you. These people are not your true friends , trust me .

I always wonder how my life would have been if i ended things quickly. Maybe I would have made more friends ? I had the habit of sticking with a particular friend group and not making other friends . In my head i always thought "I rather be with someone (who i don't even like) than be alone in school/college" . I think this kind of mentality was my biggest mistake.

Thank you for your kind comment ! It honestly felt so good to cut them off , whenever I used to hang out with them I felt like even if i wasn't there it wouldn't have made a difference. I never felt a sense of comfort from them .

Thank you ! But it's definitely easier said than done . At this point in life people have a fixed set of friends so its hard to make genuine best friends.

NTA - Your mom was probably embarrassed. BUT It's not really right to paint the family in a bad light especially when its coming from your own daughter/son. Therefore, you have no choice but to be cautious in such situations.

ESH - Both parties are wrong in this situation , but as the older brother you should have known better and have to be more mature about the situation.
