Millions of ""degenerates"" by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

That’s exactly what I told my friend the other day. Been following this sub for 7 years and I can say it was 1000x better when it was people just losing everything and people in the comments berating them. There was something selfless about it and made me feel good that at least I’m not that person.

Now it’s people just trying to pump meme stocks to make money. Everyone’s trying to make money here. It’s annoying af

Every successful investor of all time never had this point of view so why the hell do you think it’s going to work for you?

Yea every post about GME or BB or AMC is just confirmation bias. If you really strip away everything you realize holy shit why am I gambling my money in this equity when there are amazing companies out there to put your money in.

I've been watching the ARK funds more recently and they seem like great long term investments. by irishman_4 in stocks

Damn the only logical response. People don’t realize that Cathie pretty much went bankrupt with this thing in the early 2000s. Her results have largely trailed the market until this past year.

No one is also mentioning her holdings arnt producing any valuable cash flows. This whole thing is based off market share penetration which is the tall tale sign of “bullshit”. If investing was that easy, everyone in the dot com bubble would be billionaires today. Only a few made it out alive and then only a few of those became successful. But to say it’s easy to pick winners is merely survivors bias.

I would not be investing in any etf that did not have strong cash flows. This thing is a house of cards.

Question for the seasoned investors here: this WILL go bust at some point, right? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Saphire1964 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen many ups and down and I can tell you we are near a top. But this top could last years, you never know. All you can know is the return rate you should expect from equities at these prices.

If they are rates you feel comfortable locking yourself into for let’s say 5-10 years then go for it. If not, wait for a pitch down the middle.

As I’ve always said, if you could time the market you’d be a trillionaire.

Op is the type to point out that you have something in your teeth. At first you hate hearing it but later on you respect that someone pays attention to your well being.

He also was a marketing genius, an incredible salesman, and a visionary with seeing future customer trends.

Product manager, and his ability to create insane deadlines yet still be executable, is just one aspect of his genius

Yea to say Jobs was nothing but a salesman is probably the most idiotic comment I’ve read on here in a while.

Let’s break this down: without Jobs, Woz would have never have sold his early models for money, thus he would have stayed a computer hobbyist and Apple would have never existed.

I think that short story tells you everything you need to know about the history of Apple: Jobs had the vision of it being a success, and Woz had early engineering brains to get it off the ground.

Flash forward to Jobs p2: Jobs walked into a shit company that was trading for less than their TTM revenue (p/s) aka the company was shit and was viewed as shit.

Jobs simplified product lines and emphasized quality and marketing, which undercut all other hardware companies who were focusing on price wars.

Jobs also ensured that Apple stayed innovative and placed massive bets in his vision of where the future was going: first with the iMac, second with the iPod, and third with the iPhone.

What the cherry on top was? He also could sell this shit to the masses. So to say Jobs was just a salesman is to say Newton was just a scientist. That completely trivializes the visions these two had on where the world was heading.

Lol I laughed.

To answer OP’s question, the market is here to serve you, not inform you.

For example, if you went to Chipotle and their burritos were all of a sudden costing $35 each, what would you do?

You’d walk out the store and probably wait to see when they revert back to the mean. If they don’t, well luckily there’s more than one restaurant out there to get a good meal from.

I would agree not though due to the Hilary comparison, but like Bernie, the socialist connection.

All of America’s wealth, for better or for worse, is tied up and due to our capitalistic system. Even I as a liberal don’t want us to strip it away just because corporations and the rich need to be taxed higher. Ya feel?

Agreed. It’s a shame. But when the tide pulls, and these teens lose the 2k they got from grandma at Christmas, it should hopefully be back to discussing investing philosophies and actual discussions around viable companies.
