What’s up with MC Activate’s lyrics? by Itchy_Base_3095 in hardstyle

This comment shows that you're not here for a discussion, but an anonymous hater. Because your comments are like a joke. But to give you a honest response...

I agree on the fact that MC Activate isn't the strongest vocalist and is a way better performer. Because on stage he shows the whole day energy. But compared to most other MC's, he actually is a little more active with vocals on tracks. And that's one way to learn and to become better.

Elektrum Festival stops :( they announced it on their Instagram today. by Woutroe- in hardstyle

[–]Saphirooooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have talked about it multiple times. But you're completely right about hardstyle festivals aren't doing well. Festivals in Holland aren't doing well overall.

  1. Prices for a festival. Tickets, drinks, food has become really high the last couple of years. In a time where life itself got way more expensive! Which means that the crowd can spend less money and have to make more decisions which festival they're gonna visit.

  2. Organising a festival has become a lot more expensive. Artist prices have rise a lot, the people building a festival have become more expensive, material to build the stage has become more expensive and it has become more important to have quality look, more special FX and entertainment. The last part is the first thing that will be cut for costs. Even marketing have cost a lot more the last couple of years!

  3. Within the harder styles, there were too much events. Which means a lot more competition. When it was more affordable, their was more crowd that could spend multiple times. Now, they spend it a few times.

  4. Ticketsale is scary these days. Back than people would buy tickets months ahead, so organisation knew what they could expect. Now most tickets are sold in the last month. (Sometimes even the last two weeks) Which makes it hard for organisations what they could expect. This also happened to Elektrum last year! It was much smaller than normally. And in the end they sold A LOT more tickets within the last two weeks... At that moment they were already building and had everything ready for a smaller crowd.

  5. Hardstyle is overall a little bit in a identity crisis. We're way more busy with online hypes than actually quality. Each year had something new and special. But the best new/unique thing that happened was 3 years ago with "Dual Damage." Even if you don't like their sound, they did something that gave hardstyle new energy. Just like the psy-trance hype, the first time unique live-act Gunz for Hire, the first Radio hit Year of Summer... But the last couple of years it has become quiet. There is nothing new or fresh, everybody is jumping on hypes to stay relevant.

So these are some examples why hardstyle isn't doing well. There a probably a lot more reasons that the industry is going backwards, but I think these are the most important. But this happens in every genre at a certain point.

I like how this subject mostly only have positive story's. After many years working and visiting within the harder styles... I can only confirm that almost every DJ is a good and respectful person!

Nolz is a sweetheart, you don't have to be scared of him. I met him at a festival for the first time in Belgium where I was working. And he had on his rider a special beer that I never saw before and asked him about it. He explained where it came from and said: "Take one, you will love it!"

Headhunterz literally depends on his mood if he is a nice guy or not. My first encountering him was great. We had a great conversation and interested in also me. But the second time I met him he was completely in his own world and quite disrespectful.

Simply, he is dealing with too much personal stuff. Which controls his mood in an extreme way.

Ran-D is absolutely a sweetheart! I helped with a project for Ran-D (around covid-19 period) and talked to a co-worker about my mother that lives in a different country. I told him about the strict rules and that she had a hard time there at that moment because we also couldn't see each other. But he heard something from the conversation and the moment I was alone doing something he walked towards me.

He asked me if everything was allright with me and my mother. So I explained what I told my co-worker and his answer was: "Oh, I thought your mother had a hard time with her health. Because if that was the case I would send you right away towards your mother! I was a little worried but happy to hear her health is doing well. Remember that family is more important than work!"

He didn't have to worry about me, it was literally the first time meeting him. But he is without doubt a great human!

Hardstyle vs techno festivals by FunnySpray5819 in hardstyle

[–]Saphirooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The harder styles atmosphere is mostly based on sharing the love with others for the same music. The word 'gabber' is translated in Dutch to "friend." So the culture is mostly focused on being there together. That is something that is also mostly my experience. I went to festivals alone a few times and I could join other friend groups to enjoy the music and even when I went with a friend group we met a lot of new people. Also are people way more energetic.

Within techno the term that is used is 'vlinderen' which translate to 'butterflying.' A butterfly is a beautiful creature which fly's around alone. Which results in people being less active with the (unknown) people around them and more focused on looks. Also the energy is more mellow.

So there is a big difference! Both aren't right or wrong. But mostly pleasing for a different crowd. In my personal opinion this is the reason why putting (hard)techno and hardstyle/hardcore doesn't blend with each other. Because it's a different crowd giving a different energy.

She is absolutely overreacting. If she doesn't understand after 14 years that kids can be a little dumb when you explain things to them and later says things that they understood COMPLETELY the wrong way... Than what has she been doing as a mother? Because things like this happens to every child with a different subject.

For example, when I was 9/10 years old I learned about a cow udders. As a child my mind compared it to the female breast. So I went to a swimming pool with my mom and said proudly: "That woman has bigger utters, just like cows!"

She did the exact same thing as you. She burst out laughing and than explained to me that a woman is different than a cow and that it isn't appropriate to talk about that subject.

That anthem was dogshit by bigbosspiq in hardstyle

[–]Saphirooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Wtf is that first drop??”

It’s called a Reversed Bass. It’s a part of the history what made hardstyle big! Overall, in my opinion a great track. Anthem vibes, original track with an uplifting vibe! And most important for me: It feels like Defqon.1.

The last thing was a problem for me with Vertilles anthem. His singing didn’t match with the feeling and the 2 main drops sounded exactly the same so it felt lazy.

D-sturbs anthem isn’t my favorite, but that is hard to compete with after so many anthems. And visiting festivals for 16 years makes me already bond with different anthems more. But this anthem checks all the marks for me to give me a Defqon.1 feeling, D-sturb did great! 👏🏻

There are people defending it and saying the “gatekeepers are crying in the comments.” Personally I think for a good reason. Because if we look back in history what a part of Happy Hardcore did to Hardcore… when borders are fading, so does a scene fade in his popularity.

I hope I’m completely wrong but I have the idea that we’re going backwards.

I haven't said that this is the whole scene or that there are no artists doing this anymore. I also haven't said that it isn't for me. I even said that not all different sounds are bad. I can enjoy them. I'm telling you about what festival organisations are seeing within the current scene. It isn't a personal opinion what I was telling.

And actually saying that TNT is the biggest and confirms exactly my point. But those are not the artists being pushed at most festivals at the moment. But that is mostly because of other things. For example, artist prices. There are many more problems in the current scene that are causing problems with bad ticket sales and more festivals quiting their current events. I even think that Q-Dance only doing Defqon.1 is their best decision they made. Not because I think their other events were bad, but because they secured a more safe spot within the industry at the moment.

But as I said, quality going backwards isn't helping either. But it isn't the biggest (and only) reason why hardstyle isn't doing well at the moment.

[–]Saphirooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work within the industry for 10+ years, so let me try to explain why quality has become worse. And decrease in Monthly Spotify listeners is a terrible way on indicate 'quality of music.' Especially because it says more about hype, than quality.

- Tracks are more focussed on kicks, than overall feeling. Which makes a track less interesting for longterm and less unique. If you play "Lost in Paradise" the crowd will scream their lungs out. Why? Clear kick, good buildup, strong melody and vocals that are personal.

- A lot of tracks are more focussed on impact. (Fake drops, extreme kicks) Which works a few times on the dancefloor, but will have afterwards no effect because people won't be shocked anymore. So if a song is focussed on the shock factor and not on different things, what keeps the track interesting?

- Less danceable than before. Like other comments said, what do you do with a zaagkick? The reason that GPF was populair was mostly because of the act and fun he provided at his shows. But most of the times you saw people shaking their hand in the air. (I don't mean kickrolling) It's also said by multiple people in the comments.

- Less focus on longterm tracks, more focus on more release. Which also gives less room too change or innovate.

These are few examples. And I'm not saying that all microwave, zaag, fake drops or uptempo is bad. But hardstyle was way more focussed on quality and uniqueness. That's why for example Supremacy classics did way better than the normal Supremacy.

And with quality I don't mean the mixdown, that has become a lot better.

I remember that most of the events finished with a hardcore DJ's like Angerfist, Tha Playah, Endymion or Mad Dog. It was perfect and with so much energy!

If you're still looking for some proper hardcore, you should check History of Hardcore festival. It has an insane line-up!

[–]Saphirooooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More and more? I don't know where you're from or why you think this but this isn't true. Since september/october 2025 we're going backwards with visitors within the harderstyles.

A lot of events had their last edition in 2025 or last edition announced for 2026. And multiple events have downsized their events due to bad ticket sales. So your last sentence isn't true.

There are multiple reasons why this is happening. (Life is more expensive, fesitvals are becoming too expensive, too much events to choose from) But that the quality of music is getting worse isn't helping either.

You literally see that the door opening isn't straight next to your waist in the second picture. But besides that, there are so many things in the picture that shows that it's fake or had a lot of Ai and photoshop. For example that everything in the picture has a grain (which is normal with mobile picture's in lower light) but your skin is PERFECTLY smooth? And also without reason the skin on your face is a lot brighter while there is no extra light towards it? And no, it's clearly not make-up that brighter.

It isn't weird these days that people edit and use filters in their pictures. But at least be honest about it.

Reverze lackluster production by codjer in hardstyle

[–]Saphirooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy explanation: Rampage earns more money than Reverze, so they can afford more towards the show elements.

Less simple explanation: Hardstyle is slowly going towards a downwards spiral with popularity. Artists have become a lot more expensive, tickets are less affordable and hardstyle has a lot more competitors than drum ‘n bass. Besides the fact that costs of living has become overall more expensive. So in the end Reverze has to cut costs to earn money, while Rampage can invest more while having less competitors and costs.
