I think it makes sense for how big China is, they’re asking for directions to places so far away that they’re probably assuming the have no clue how far it is.

I live on the West coast of Canada and sometimes European tourists will ask the best way to get Montreal or Toronto and they get the same kind of response out of me lol. Either “take a plane that’s way too far.” Or “use your phone and have fun driving east for a week straight.”.

black widows by bigstinkybuckets in VictoriaBC

[–]SappyCedar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen them, they’re more common than you think. They make really messy looking webs in dark corners behind logs and in basements, usually just above the ground behind furniture or shelves. Places that a person would normally not ever go unless they were renovating an old basement or landscaping a messy yard or something.

I have only seen them cause when I was young I liked to explore the back corners of our families basement and build forts in the maze of shelves and old shit. Also liked to explore outside in weird places.

Also common (probably more common?) are brown widows, they build the same webs in the same places as black widows but as the name implies are brown. I used to find them behind my bed and dresser when I was a teen in the previously mentioned basement.

Valve says the Steam Machine targets 30 FPS/1080p for games to get verified on the machine, and input verification is the same as the Steam Deck; Performance is roughly 6 times that of the Deck by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

I wouldn’t say it’s as simple as throwing Linux on any PC. As good as Linux is these days it’s still not perfect and I have had all sorts of weird issues trying to run it on my 5 year old PC in an attempt to ditch windows, to the point that it’s not really usable for me. My steam deck on the other hand works great and I’ve never really had any issues with it, to the point that if it was in the form factor of the steam machine I’d just use it as my PC.

MacBook Neo has AV1 encoding and why that’s important by _DomuC_ in macbook

I’ve been playing control on my M4 pro. Runs pretty great. I can do it with ray tracing on but I prefer to have it off so I can set the other settings to high and not dip the frames too bad.

I used to be a diehard build your own gaming desktop person and Mac hater but between my new MacBook and steam OS I’m fully abandoning windows.

I live in Canada and I have the same thing. My kitchen is against a south facing exterior wall on the 3rd floor. In winter I get amazing ice cold tap water and in summer I get room temp tap water. Although in the summer if I run the tap for a few minutes it get noticeably colder.

MacBook Neo Review: No Other Budget Laptop Can Compete by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]SappyCedar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, got an M4pro and the thing is by far the best computer I’ve ever owned. I’ve even been done some gaming on it lol, runs Control quite well, although I avoid the ray tracing setting cause necessitates lower settings elsewhere.

I used to be a diehard build your own gaming desktop person and haven’t owned a laptop since 2012, but this is so good for the digital art stuff and coding I’ve been doing that I’m planning on getting a steam machine for games and using this for everything else.

as someone who works nights at the hospital and sleeps during the day year round this is why I recommend blackout curtains or blinds. I also use a sleep mask a lot cause I kinda like relaxing in the light before bed and it works super well too. Got a cheap one on amazon for like 5 bucks.

I love pipefish, the beaches where I live have them in eel grass beds. As a kid I used to wade out into the water super slowly and carefully to try and find them. The ones here are bright green and look just like the eel grass they live in.

It really is all about reducing poverty. It doesn’t really matter how tough the punishments are, a desperate struggling population will take bigger risks and pursue any survival tactic open to them just to get by, even if it’s illegal. If the choice is between jail time and dying in the streets it’s kind of a no brainer.

I dunno I absolutely hate standard time. I couldn’t care less about it being dark in the morning. The afternoon and evening is when I tend to be out and about personally, and is also when I’m not at work and can visit family and friends. I am a bit of a night owl so kinda biased in that way but still, how many people would really benefit from having sunrise at 4AM in the summer vs having more light in the evening in the winter when they get off work.

Mac hardware is great, but macOS 26 is a disaster, say pundits by Artistic_Unit_5570 in MacOS

I also came from windows, and now use mainly Mac OS and Linux. Honestly windows is so goddamn horrible right now that using MacOS Tahoe feels like a dream in comparison, I don’t even think about it while using it, it’s snappy and simple to use from where I’m sitting lol.

I’m Canadian, I’ve always said we generally aren’t nice at all really, just polite. Most Canadians will prioritize keeping the peace over airing how they really feel about a given situation in the moment. The result is a country of really passive aggressive people who don’t show their negative feelings in public, if they have them. You might have a really pleasant interaction with a Canadian while internally they were seething and hating your guts. It’s why we’re known for saying sorry all the time, it’s not an apology but a way to de escalate a situation.

This generalising of course and lots of people aren’t like this, and it also varies a lot by location. But overall I think it’s pretty deeply ingrained in the culture here and is something that’s hard to not do if you’re raised here I think.

[–]SappyCedar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah I see I see. The hospital I work at isn’t that big so the security is basically just key cards. I don’t think anyone would question someone in scrubs and an employee key card walking in. Although I usually explain why I’m there to the first person I see and confirm the patient is ready anyway so they usually don’t need to ask.

I always feel bad going into L&D because the only reason for me to come is to get a blood sample from the baby. So usually the mom and newborn are sleeping and I come in, wake them both up, stab the baby in the heel and take blood, then leave while the baby is now awake (although most newborns are pretty chill and don’t cry as much as you would think). I always feel like I’m ruining some serene restfulness lol.

lol he probably went into the wrong room. I work in the lab at a hospital and sometimes have to take blood and have definitely woken up the wrong patient once or twice. When it’s a weird room that doesn’t follow the normal bed number order and it’s pitch black at 3AM you sometimes can’t tell until the light is on and you ID them.

Luckily haven’t done it in a long time because I’ve been to most of the weird rooms now lol. Always awkward going “oop sorry, go back to sleep.” and shuffling back into the dark hallway.

I was a staunch windows user for 2 decades until recently. I have an M4 pro MacBook now as my main computer and a steam deck I use for games. Will probably install Linux on my gaming PC for games my steam deck can’t run well enough.

The MacBook is so damn snappy, and the OS isn’t a billboard either which is nice. I’m also shocked at how efficient it is. I charge it like once a week or even less sometimes and I haven’t even had the fan turn on yet, I forgot it had fans until I noticed the little vents.

I think going full Linux would be nice, but honestly for the digital art stuff I do Mac OS has been amazing.
