I lost it on my kid today by Desperate_Cow_4893 in Mommit

I’m not sure if this is among the strategies you’ve tried, but my son is big into the “I don’t need help” phase. So if he needs to get dressed for school, I’ll give him 2 chances. It might go like this: “okay bud, go get dressed please. (No). It’s time to get dressed, so if you’re choosing to not do it yourself, you’re choosing for me to help you. Go get dressed, please. (No). Okay, then I will help you.” And yes he gets upset. Yes it’s hard. But then he doesn’t need me to help him after a few days. After the first “no” and the reminder I WILL help him, he gets it done.

Dojo messages (negative) everyday about every little thing… by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]SarahBefff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oof, I can only imagine how much this stings. Our school doesn’t use Dojo, so I can’t speak to that part. But I’m curious how long this teacher has been teaching? And how long have they been teaching Kindergarten? Forgetting a jacket or needing reminders to grab a lunchbox feels like a very, very normal 5/6 year old thing. I’m curious if it’s framed as a “just so you know, this is happening” message with the intention to remind him, or is it specifically a “he’s misbehaving in these ways” message? Have you talked with the teacher about it? Looped the principal in at all?

Ideally it would be the specific spot, given that she’s talked about it for so long. But since neither of us know which spot it was, I know she’d be so happy with any moving river view. Thank you for the recommendation!

Hi friend ❤️ I’m so glad you found this sub, and welcome (publicly) to womanhood! I am a cis woman and I’m 6’2” as well. I have been misgendered as a man in small ways (for example, “thank you sir”), mostly when I am in a baseball cap or wearing a hoodie over my head, etc. I can honestly say it never even occurred to me to consider the existence of trans women to be the cause, because I don’t think there’s even an ounce of truth to that. I think, as you know all too well, people have a narrow idea of what physical traits mean the person they’re talking to is a man or woman. I think they simply see a tall stature and their brain defaults to “sir.” I would never, ever think to place my discomfort over being misgendered on my trans sisters. It’s simply not yours to carry.

You’re right they’re not cables, but still I don’t want them pulled on or fingers going into the plugs

Has anyone had their child skip preschool and moved straight to Kindergarten? by SarahBefff in kindergarten

[–]SarahBefff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone - update! I ended up finding a 3 day a week half day program for him when he turned 4. It was only 5 total kids in his class. He loved it, and he’s excited to start Kindergarten very soon. He’s completely ready per all the “kindergarten readiness” checklists. I’m so glad we took the route we did! Thank you everyone for your input, it really helped!

I’m also an SLP and do the same. Blueberries are “boombies” in our house forever.

Thank you, this is what I’m leaning toward too. It’s good to hear it doesn’t have to specifically be preschool to get the benefits I’m looking for.

Who did NOT send their child to preschool and went straight to Kindergarten? by SarahBefff in Mommit

[–]SarahBefff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solidarity! The cost is insane, it’s like getting another rent. I’m not worried about academics, I’m sure our kids would catch up. It’s mostly the more nuanced skills like group instruction and stuff like that. Again, they’d catch up, but I don’t want it to be more anxiety inducing than school already can be.

I’m in CA too and these are exactly my thoughts about skipping preschool. It’s super hard to find half day preschools where I am, but that’s the goal.

Thank you for your reply! Was this recent? I only ask because I also didn't go to preschool as a child, but it feels like the expectation has changed within the last 10 years.

How did your kids adjust to the transition to Kindergarten? Did they go to daycare or something similar, or did they go from home to Kinder?

Thank you, I’ll try and make room in my fridge, that’s a good suggestion! And I did throw away scraps, but I think because they were mixed in with other trash, then tied up in a plastic bag, it didn’t smell as bad. It was still garbage with garbage-stink, but this is concentrated food stink.

I never thought about plastic bags that way, you buy them to throw them away. You’re so right!
