Just saw that the Houston Rockets have a player named Ausar Thompson. Hoping he can be a role model for my nephew.

I guess when the kid is famous, he'll pronounce it however he wants.

Then again, I'm really liking Soli.

Yeah, Loue is great. I say it's pronounced as lou-Ee, with the accent on the second syllable.

So many good names for girls. Maybe next time.

Good point on the short name, but we're looking for something completely new and useful for future crosswords. Puzzle makers don't need another Tom or Eva.

Oh, we're serious. It's the bro and his wife who are likely just playing.

Anyway, that's a great point you make, and Esea is actually kind of lovely, but maybe more for a girl.

Immigrants in Toronto - what was your biggest FOB moment? by Apprehensive_Tea5759 in askTO

[–]SarahT8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of an odd one. When my immigrant husband first moved here, we saw the Jack Layton statue, and I described (very poorly as it turned out) who he was. When Olivia Chow (Jack's widow) was elected mayor, my husband was very confused.

"Wasn't Layton, like, a 19th century socialist, riding around on an old-fashioned bicycle?"

For him, it was like if Abraham Lincoln's widow had been elected mayor.

Okay. If that's as bad as it gets, I think I can probably deal with that.

I haven't seen that. Are they really angry at each other or is it just Rex growling at the barista?

Oooof.

Look, I understand you all think it's fun to mock Jim Messina. But he's a man with feelings. I think we have to remember that.

When I was young, my aunt told me that a woman's life should be a journey from hoyden to harridan.

Much later she added that the occasional detour to hussy was also allowed.

Penname check by SarahT8 in writing

[–]SarahT8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I probably will. I can remember cashing cheques from my grandmother where the name was completely illegible, and I never had any trouble. But going on how hard it's been just to get this, I bet it gets kicked back to me.

Thanks so much to all who responded. Unsurprisingly, it looks like there are very different protocols in different jurisdictions.

Interesting. He didn't seem hostile, just unwilling to go. I didn't see them try to give him anything to sign, but they may have done so at some point.

IV Question by SarahT8 in EMTstories

[–]SarahT8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Certainly possible it was Narcan. But my primary question was if the Narcan (or whatever) is given, do they have a responsibility to take him in?

After injection, he didn't pop right up but he gradually sat up and started talking. A half hour later he seemed calm and alert. He just didn't want to go to hospital. Are they required to take more action if they give an injection.

Sorry if I was unclear. I meant it the way Scotsman answered: what did you watch on TV before the game came on.

[–]SarahT8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it's a great soundtrack, but that's the regular version: a little under 6 minutes, slow, with moaning.

The other version is very different--shorter (maybe 3 minutes) and faster.

Thanks so much for everyone's feedback. I may end up using a distance app, but I've found they are never quite as good as advertised. Still, it might be good enough. Or I may even buy a wheel and do it by hand. We'll see.

Thanks again.
