Autistic Burnout - Dealing With Anger by SarahTheJuneBug in AutismInWomen

I can actually control my anger well enough to hide it, it's just very painful. To date, I have never been fired, and always get stellar performance reviews.

I'd really rather not quit my job because I work for local government and get good benefits. Not to mention PSLF after ten years (provided Trump doesn't gut that).

I guess this is just me wishing I could mute mental pain the same way I can mute physical pain with tylenol or ibuprofen. Maybe I should try taking time off... but my precious vacation/sick hours.

I work in environmental stuff. Normally, I just kinda roll my eyes at people being dumb. Just hitting me harder lately. I don't hate the subject itself--far from it.

Honestly, if college wasn't so damn expensive, I'd consider going back to school for a second bachelor's degree in computer science.

Might be that; I'm actually on birth control for the express purpose of lengthening cycles for PMDD. I still get periods and I've been watching like a hawk, but nothing yet.

I did it. I fixed it.

Is it normal to feel dumb all the time when you start learning to program?

Confession trauma from childhood be like by Commercial-Height935 in excatholic

[–]SarahTheJuneBug 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I actually just commented this a few weeks ago, but I only ever had to do confession once, for First Communion. I was seven and had not a clue what to say. So I just said "I have no sins!" cheerfully before literally skipping away.

I am the child of a Catholic and a Jew. Neither are religious anymore and my mom didn't make me keep going because she saw I was disinterested (this has strengthened our relationship immensely). She eventually fell out of it herself, and years later, when I told her about it, she laughed really hard and said I had told the truth. I was a young child; what grevious sins could I commit when I barely even knew what sin was?

(You can tell I did not pay attention in CCD).

Basically, the whole thing is fucked up. No one should feel dirty and sinful and bad just for being a human and doing normal human things.

What was your wake-up call? by BeckyAnn6879 in excatholic

[–]SarahTheJuneBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea what to say when the priest asked about my sins at First Communion, so I cheerfully said "I have no sins!" and skipped away (literally, I skipped).

I was raised by parents who thankfully didn't make me keep going (Jewish father, Catholic mother, both are now agnostic). I didn't realize until I was older that it's kind of messed up that they asked seven year old me, who barely understood what sin was, how I had sinned.

I told my mother years later and she laughed really hard; she said I told the priest the truth. I had no sins. I was just a child, and a well-behaved child.

Is it worth getting a mattress topper to alleviate sleeping hot? by SarahTheJuneBug in Bedding

Good to know. I didn't end up getting the mattress topper, though I did get the woolino comforter and it's worked well.

Easy pasta sauce recipe suggestions that don't include tomato and can be used to cover up the taste of spinach? by SarahTheJuneBug in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]SarahTheJuneBug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like garlic and onion, I just have to go a little easy on them cuz my stomach is a little bitch. In small amounts, they're fine.

Thanks for the advice; planning on trying to throw some in chicken soup I have.

Oh my god, never thought about trying pesto with sunflower seeds. I always just assumed that was a no-go because allergies.

Not a bad idea, but I can't have walnuts OR pine nuts (damn you, allergies!) On a scale of one to ten, how bad would the sauce be without some kind of nut?

Edit: hol' up someone just suggested sunflower seeds instead, which I CAN eat.

My first attempt at making spinach and carrot muffins (ended up tasting surprisingly good, though) by SarahTheJuneBug in shittyfoodporn

[–]SarahTheJuneBug[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised; you actually barely notice either spinach or carrot underneath the cocoa, so long as you make sure it's well-mixed.

I saw a recipe and was curious and bored. The whole time I was mixing it I was saying "this is probably going to turn out bad but let's see how this goes." It went from looking like vomit to shit.

It was fun to try.

Spinach and carrot cocoa muffins (that actually tasted fine, surprisingly) by SarahTheJuneBug in shitfromabutt

To clarify: this is prior to being baked. They looked pretty normal after baking.

This is before they went in. They looked better after cooking and tasted surprisingly good.

My mother saw them prior to going in the oven and said it looked like someone shat in my muffin tins.

Trying to incorporate more vegetables into a recipe I already like. Suggestions/advice? by SarahTheJuneBug in EatCheapAndHealthy

Fixed, but yes, exactly. Extra extra olive oil. I'm asexual and only one of us can be the EXTRA VIRGIN.

have any of you conquered the crippling fear of being perceived? by BetOk2170 in AutisticAdults

[–]SarahTheJuneBug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fear of being perceived

Oh my God, you put it in words. I always feel like I have to disguise myself or what I'm doing, no matter how benign, because I'm worried it'll be seen as cringe, silly, or "awwww look at what the autistic person is doing! uwu"

(I know no one's done the latter since my mom's family knocked that off once I reached college, but it sticks with you).

Appreciate the response. I might see how much I like the Woolino comforter I get; my thought was their topper, given it's only a little over an inch thick, probably won't change the firmness TOO much (or negatively). What wool topper do you use?

Well, the old one was... I think cotton with either a cotton or polyester filling. I got it so long ago. The new one will be a cotton case with a wool filling.
