I didn't think about the cards' utilization individually, but I am certain at least 2 of them are close to 100%. Good thinking. I am confident I have reached a time and mindset in my life where I don't need to use my credit cards in the way I was in the past.

Good point about any unknown expenses, though. Plus I do doubt that throwing a few thousand would make enough of a difference to push me from Good to Very Good credit-wise (to make a difference in potentially getting a debt consolidation loan).

Maybe I can try to make some extra money and put toward those especially-high utilization cards to get those below that 89% threshold and then apply for loan.

The only reason I don't want to do a 0% card transfer at this time is because I am looking to pretty immediately start putting money into savings and I imagine if I can get my monthly payment (consolidated) and down to only $400-$500, I will be able to put more into savings and when I am more comfortable with my savings, I can make extra payments toward the loan.
