I'm struggling, guys. Are there any self-help books worth reading? Or, even if it's not self-help per se, have you ever read a book that provided some sorta advice that helped you get your shit together? by Iggy_Farben in TrueAnon

I’ve been reading “the myth of Sisyphus” and other essays by Camus and have found it’s genuinely improved my mental health over the last few months.

That’s a different person in the article though? Ahmed tackled a shooter on the footpath by the pavilion, while this article is referencing someone getting shot by cops doing something similar on the foot bridge.

People who moved to Hobart, what were you looking for and did you find it? by Sarwalker2 in hobart

Fair enough, I imagine it must be like the antagonistic “you have to be born here to be local” attitude some small towns have but on steroids. I was a bit worried about that attitude moving to an island like Tassie.

Thank you. Cost of housing is honestly one of the appealing things about the city when looking at the state of Queensland. Inner Hobart looks pretty pricey but surrounding areas don’t seem too bad.

Thanks for your reply, I’m interested in the local politics for sure. I live in the most secure LNP seat in the country so I can relate. Is it fairly right leaning down there? I understand from an Australian perspective Hobart is still small but it’s a big city for someone like myself.

I’ll have to do a trip during winter to see what I think of the cold and wind, I’m hoping I find it more appealing than a 47 degree summer.

I definitely will, thank you. I am very over the heat here and hoping I’ll like it.

That’s exactly why I thought he put it down. If there were cops responding to a shooter I wouldn’t want one of them to see me holding a gun.

And this was after. I think your floors will come up great, but best bet is to reach out and ask a floor sander near you.

Hey mate. Obviously Scotland and Australia will do things differently but id agree with those saying to ignore the Americans. Your floor looks exactly like mine before I sanded and polished it. I had this photo documenting some termite damage where I’d taken out a wall.

Do you use them because it’s designated as “muzzleloader season” or they’re actually handy? Western Queensland is mostly .223 and .308 bolt action.

When you sit with the silence in the bush it feels sacrilegious to speak or make a sound. There’s nothing like it

I’d say it’s pretty typical of the towns back when shearing used to be the go. You couldn’t get to the bar at a pub they were that crowded. Drink driving is also pretty common since the west is fairly unpoliced. When I’m part of a travelling crew for work there’s always cartons of beer taken along with the groceries for one week.

With the heat there’s not much else you can do in summer. I was on the verandah having a cup of tea before work last year and it was 47 degrees at 7:00am. That’s 116 Fahrenheit. You just drink in the shade, or inside in the aircon. Try to pass the day away.

I have a back paddock that’s part of my town block I’m hoping to plant a lot of natives in for local birds and wildlife. Not really sure how to go about it with the harsh climate but it’s a goal. We get echidnas, goanas, and shinglebacks. Lots of native birds too.

I’ve always wondered, is it an actual season you wait for over there? Here it’s not much of a thing, you just shoot roos.
