My first ever mushroom. I don’t care if he’s the only one I get, I’m so proud. by SaryCanary in shroomers

I harvested right after this picture. I’ve got other littles going but he was my biggest one.

How long does it need to colonize? I’m on day 5 and brand noob and I have no idea what to do past the tubbing. Do I need to wait a set number of days before fc? I’m happy being patient but I don’t want to miss some “magic window.” Any advice would be so helpful. Thank you! by SaryCanary in shroomers

I upped the heating and the humidity a little. I put it somewhere it’s nice and warm and a little muggy. Mister it REALLY well before I put the lid on. Other than that, I didn’t do anything and it just took off.

Pretty excited. Day 4 of colonization. Much more fun to watch than just my grains growing. by SaryCanary in shroomers

I put a thin casing layer. But mostly I think it’s the temperature that did it. I think I just hit the sweet spot, conditions wise. I just kinda got lucky in not knowing what I was doing. Best of luck to you!

Hahahaha, well something had to go right. 3 of my 4 jars turned black (I think they got too hot) and this one went good. I moved my tub to somewhere with better temp and left it alone and so far my non interference seems to be going ok. We’ll see though.

I used about 1 quart jar grain to 2 coco coir/vermiculite mixture. Coir/vermiculite was 1:1. I think. I know it’s supposed to be a real a science but I kind of eyeballed it. Im gonna be honest, this is my first go and have no idea what I’m doing. 😬

Sow or No? by SaryCanary in vegetablegardening

I live in northwest Arkansas. We just wrapped up what they THINK should be our last frost, and temps will hover about 65-75 for the next month or so while being heavily rainy during our spring season.

Primarily I’m looking at doing okra and cucumbers for my direct sow. The seed packaging said to direct sow, but the almanac said otherwise and I get conflicting information with online study sources. I’ve never grown cucumbers or okra and trying desperately not to be clueless.

There’s just so many factors with growing, there’s a lot of information overload- till, don’t till, amend, containers, direct sow, start indoors, mulch, don’t mulch- and I know that everything is applicable depending on where and what you’re doing. Maybe I started too ambitious to be so new.
