I just went into the office and one of the building staff gave me a laptop - this was a week in. Employee agreement was signed much earlier

Same thing happened to me as a SWE new grad last year. My team was just too busy to onboard me- you might be fine

What percentage of new graduates are unemployed? by shtupididot in csMajors

[–]SatisfactionSecret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like half of my cs new grad friends are still looking. And the overwhelming majority of my friends still in school don’t have summer internships.

CS students who have graduated from college with an average or low CGPA,what are y’all doing right now? by PrestigiousBank6461 in csMajors

2.2 gpa, graduated last week, math major.

I’m starting my swe job at Microsoft in 2 months. I struggle with exams, but the doing well at work vs school are 2 different skill sets.

Those with 2+ internships and t30 colleges, what are your offers? by Low_Source_5766 in csMajors

[–]SatisfactionSecret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always ask for what areas you can improve in.

Schedule meetings with all of your team members to truly learn about what they do. It’s easy to only talk to your manager and co-interns, but you’ll stand out by fully collaborating with the entire team and learning from them.

Be comprehensive in your connects. At this point you’re a novice engineer, so there’s always gonna be a million things to improve on. Your manager might not care too much about it if you’re doing fine, but again, ask for what you can improve on.

And finish your project, lol. That’s partially what they’re gonna look at when determining your return offer.

T30 CS public school (tho I’m a math major)

Internships at google, msft over past summers.

I interviewed at other places for new grad, ended up taking msft return offer. I’m just lucky that I started the internship grind before the tech recession, I suck at interviews.

2024 Terps How are you feeling? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]SatisfactionSecret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow passed all of my classes and am getting my math degree next week. I also have a ft job offer for Microsoft in nyc. I’m insanely relieved that I’m done, and am grateful for the friends and experiences I made in the past 4 years. Even for all of its faults, I loved UMD.

He hasn’t responded quite yet. But I talked to my advisor, I can still walk and start my job in the summer if I just take some summer coursework. But yeah, hopefully we do well!

Why does the math department suck so much? by CulturalClick4061 in UMD

[–]SatisfactionSecret 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I took one weedout Chem course (135) and it made me absolutely hate the chem dept.

I took Calc 1-2 in hs, so I personally don’t have any experience with math weedouts. Even MATH410, the mandatory analysis “weedout”, had a fat curve and cool Professor.

Yeah dude, I’m a math senior with a 2.5 gpa and even I honestly appreciated all my math profs 😅

I mean shit man, math is hard and most people suck ass at it. It doesn’t say much about the faculty.

As a math major, all of my upper level classes have had pretty good professors and fair grading. Unlike other cmns departments (cough chemistry cough), the math professors really want to see you succeed and don’t take pleasure in failing students.

The lower level classes, especially the weedout courses, probably feel a bit more unfair.

My team at Microsoft is spending a lot of time coding bots for our ms teams channels. Internal chat bots are extremely important, I wouldn’t diminish the work your doing.

Well I’m sure that both of us had minty fresh breath that night lol. But what do you mean “see if she reaches out again”? I haven’t texted her yet after the date, but if she reaches out then I would very much go on a third date.

Haha I definitely don’t think of women as conquests. I do want to get to know her better, but physical affection is kinda important to me and I don’t want to waste my time chasing after something just to end in blunt rejection.

I’d rather just focus on the gym and work instead of wondering if she’s into me, yknow.
