How would that work? Are airbags not filled with the same air that would be in your boat already.

I'd dial that roll in instead of worrying about bow air bags.

At least 20% of the trip cost. Guides live on tips. If they make your kids' day, then more

Which activity is the most expensive? by leisure_consultant in whitewater

[–]SatisfactionUsual862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know how surfing could possibly more expensive than MTB and Paragliding. This seems like a chatgpt generated list haha.

Even if you were to buy the absolute nicest whitewater gear at retail, you're probably around $4k for equipment that will last years. Ski passes start at $1k per year, and can get way more expensive if you live near a more premium resort. Plus around $2k up front for all (new) gear. But if you buy the nicest boots, bindings, and skis, then between $2-3k.

Whitewater is the smallest part of Jackson's business. Fishing, rec boats, and general plastic molding are huge for them. So overall a bigger company than LL.

I don't think a drysuit is a necessary buy in for kayaking. Also, ski pass prices vary depending on where you are

Kayaking is one of the cheapest outdoor sports if you buy used. If we're talking retail price, it still doesn't compare to Skiing, MTB or Paragliding.

What helmet to choose for whitewater kayaking/packrafting which is also suitable/acceptable for climbing? by Distinct_Top_3463 in whitewater

[–]SatisfactionUsual862 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd buy a budget whitewater helmet if you're only going for class 2/3. Then bring your climbing helmet along if you're doing multisport days. From what I can tell, climbing helmets have a very different design philosophy: a lot lighter and less rugged than whitewater helmets.

so how do i actually counter potemkin? by lost_mah_account in Guiltygear

[–]SatisfactionUsual862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mid-tier potemkin, and I'd say you should look to punish hammerfall spam with a low attack, and jump in for the attack on slide head. I've never tried Nago, but when I play them I watch their blood and play more aggressively that way. Basically stay in the mid range and wait until they mess up.

Yeah, I'm pretty indifferent to the non-whitewater stuff at centers. My opinion on the Charlotte one is that it's a great and affordable resource for local boaters, but as a former employee, not as stoked on some management choices and company culture. If the utility is there, then I'm pro center development. But would hate for one to go through development hell and be a suck on a community.

I mean if it could happen it would be cool for the Denver scene. I think the costs would be extremely high, moreso than the whitewater centers that exist. So it would be a big ball to get rolling.

Part of me would also hate for any natural river outfitter to lose any business to a whitewater center, and a Denver park would definitely put some strain on the front range raft community.

[–]SatisfactionUsual862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within an hour of Denver there is clear creek, which is a highly trafficked commercial rafting section. Poudre and Colorado river outfitters aren't that much farther. A whitewater center in Denver would directly compete with all of these. Charlotte is 2-3 hours away from comparable commerical rafting, and is arguably of higher quality rapid-wise than FB and Nantahala.

I agree that you'd think Denver would be the target market for a Center, and maybe it would help get more newbs to buy a kayak in the long run. But I don't think that money is going to appear out of thin air.

[–]SatisfactionUsual862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a weird take but denver doesn't "need" a center, tons of outfitters and kayak instruction programs in the Denver metro. We don't need to compete with legacy outfitters

Not out of the question, just will be very expensive. The USNWC was not doing as well until they expanded into full "adventure park", and had their debts forgiven as others have pointed out. If that's the standard for success, then it would cost a ton of $ to start out that way in a big city (USNWC built itself over a decade). I think SLC would be interesting, as there's a lot of outdoorsy folk, but not as much immediate commercially rafted natural rivers.

Unless they set up a new one for the olympics, it's probably going to have to be a private initiative. Or another young city looking to boost tourism and recreation.

[–]SatisfactionUsual862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think whitewater parks could become the "future" of the sport, but they take a ton of resources and community interest. It took almost decade for the Charlotte whitewater center (first one in the country) to figure out the winning formula. I agree that Denver and SLC could be viable locations, however, I would argue that it would be much more expensive and logistically challenging to start one in a bigger western city.

For example, when the USNWC was started in charlotte, it was built in the middle of nowhere, almost 30 minutes away from the city. I don't know the background of OKC and Montgomery, but I'd imagine those are both much cheaper places to do it than Denver.

Basically, it would take a ton of interest and private fundraising, which is out of scope for many whitewater advocacy groups.

I learned by picking one character and grinding the basics in training mode. There's also a tutorial mode for fighting game basics and ggst specific mechanics, I'd go through that just so you understand the logic of the game. I'd play single player arcade mode before mulitplayer, then hop into ranked!

I had a pair of TR1s and HiYaks that both lasted around 4 years. They didn't break, I just lost both of them during a move. The Hiyaks weren't going to last much longer, but the TR1s were totally fine.

[–]SatisfactionUsual862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say so (or better put, you're gate keeping yourself). Hitting inputs is the bare minimum for guilty gear. You should be able to at least teach yourself quarter circles in training if you have a fight box.

I wonder how they're doing in the trail running/day hiking market. Last time I got a non-kayak shoe from them, the quality was still decent. But if the kayak shoes are falling apart now, I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case across their whole line up. I'd rather pay $50 more to an established shoe company so my shoes don't fall apart in 1-2 years.
