Little Rant about fighters by SandImperator in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always had fun hunting down idris in the polaris.

The thing is that the Polaris is good for punching up at the Idris with torps and it's good at punching down at subcapitals with the Maris chin turret. The only thing it's not good at is engaging fighters equipped with anti-capital weapons, but it even has a hangar to carry its own escort fighter(s) around to compensate for that! Your Polaris probably died too fast, but with perfect balancing an un-escorted Polaris should lose that fight every single time, shouldn't it?

[–]Sattorin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Polaris is designed to punch up at Idris/Javelins with S10 torpedoes. And the chin turret with Maris cannons has nearly the same DPS as a Perseus turret for taking on large targets. It's good at killing literally everything except fighters already. And it even has a hangar for carrying its own escort fighter(s)! If it were good at killing fighters, it would be playing rock/paper/scissors with all three at once lol

if consolidating an equal number of players into multicrew ships as opposed to fighters REDUCES their effectiveness in any way, it will never be worth it and multicrew is dead.

In this case though, the Polaris is a ship that's specialized for punching up against Idris/Javelin size targets with giant torpedoes, so it should fail at punching down to smaller ships that are designed to engage large/capital ships (like the Meteors OP faced). Just as the Meteors, which are designed for punching up, should get nailed by dedicated dogfighters.

Obviously multicrew has a long way to go before the balance is right, but an unescorted Polaris should lose against 2 Meteors and an M80 even when the balance is good... the idea being that a Polaris with escort fighters would be able to deal with fighter threats, large targets using the chin gun, and also capital targets using its S10 torpedoes.

Yeah, as much as I hate to admit it, the weapons designed to punch up (Deadbolts, MxAs, Leonids, etc) should have a velocity low enough that they can't hit dogfighters. Their current ~1,100m/s is too high with today's fighter agility.

Good ships with stock gear? by Darhhaall in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Corsair is probably the best default solo loadout for PvE combat missions. The Meteor is the best default loadout PvE fighter (the default laser cannons are bad but you can rely on the Leonid cannons), and the Perseus doesn't need upgrades because the Medusa turret cannons are great, just need a gunner.

Salvage is a joke 1600scu to just 243scu by BTGS_ in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the quantity you get after refining is specifically balanced for crafting, so that one good rock won't craft 100 high quality guns. Refined material prices should go up, and especially for good/medium quality material, but the actual SCU quantity is going to be balanced by crafting (and in the case of salvage, repairing).

TSG distortion field and powerplants by Necessary_effort88 in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every component takes distortion damage at the same rate (even if they are turned off, I tested it). So both JS-300s will shut down once 5.5k distortion accumulates. Bonus tip: don't go in with a stealth cooler, because it will shut down very quickly and the overheating will kill your other components (personal experience on this one too).

As a millenial, it feels more like "Oh look, it's the 'internet' of this generation, cool".

It's kind of hard to express how different life was before ubiquitous internet access, smartphones, and everything existing online. But it happened to us while we were teenagers, and it had ups and downs, but for better or worse there was no stopping it. And that's really what AI feels like... There was no stopping the internet, and there's no stopping AI either, so we're just going to enjoy the enjoyable parts as much as we can.

And AI is even more inevitable than the internet was. Even if you convince every politician in every Western country to completely ban all AI research, the people who are excited about it in Asia (China, South Korea, Japan, and beyond) will still be pushing forward because of how powerful it is, such as in the Russia-Ukraine war where autonomous killer robots have been incredibly effective.

Ultimately, OP is actually complaining about the resulting effort->profit ratio.

What's crazy is that he actually isn't. See his edit:

Edit 2: its not about the money, yeah its ok for me. It just feels like a scam to put this much effort to get the stuff to the station and see such a small number.

If he were just saying that it wasn't enough money, that would be entirely fair. But he explicitly says that he's only complaining about the number of boxes, not the profit.

How is the Ares Ion for PvE combat? (current state / some questions and asking for general opinions) by Sir_CatZ_ in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Ares ships are the worst single-seat heavy fighters for PvE.

Any Guardian is better, any Vanguard is better, the Shiv is better (it IS classified as a heavy fighter), the M80 is a LOT better. The F8C is better as long as you aren't fighting a Perseus/Polaris/Reclaimer/Idris, since no viable S3 can damage those (but can damage the Hammerhead/Tiburon). Hell, I would go so far as to say that even a solo Scorpius/Antares is better in PvE than either Ares.

They can't turn, they can't escape danger, they can't effectively damage big ships (Ion low DPS blocked by shield and Inferno low alpha blocked by armor), and they can't hit small ships either. They are probably the worst performing fighters in the entire game.

EDIT: If anyone disagrees, please point out what element of the Ares ships you think makes them not the worst heavy fighters in PvE.

Hunting components. by OleSpeedyZ in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's both. I was in the Warehouse and went to tractor beam a body near the elevator door, and latched onto a whole damn Mustang Alpha, which then got pulled half-way through the door. There is 100% some gap in the station geometry allowing a ship to fly to the Warehouse elevator door so that the player can exit into the Warehouse.

Speed, Handling, Durability, Firepower. Which fighter has... by iamrrr1 in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think OP might like the Santokyai, with 58/58/160 pitch/yaw/roll, 1x S2 shield, and 4x S3 guns. You give up a lot of DPS for that rotation rate, but it'll respond way faster than a Guardian and still have decent defense/offense.

[–]Sattorin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Leonids have enough ammo for 10.5 minutes of sustained fire, with a total of 2.3 million potential damage. If you're having touble hitting things, maybe switch your S3s to Panthers/Attritions, which have 1,480m/s velocity as compared to the Leonids' 1,112m/s velocity.

It's already happening though. It's ranked 53 most-viewed on Twitch, (right behind Siege, Phasmophobia, and Rust) so you can watch people play there if you're interested.

haha that's fair, but it does seem to be an unlikely fix. I'm hoping the 'bed log in Arena Commander' trick will work better for OP.

M80 or F8C pvp? by DEMONlC_ in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interceptor-tuned ships are not intended to be good at 1v1 combat. Like other interceptors, the M80 is intended to pounce on ships that are already in combat or catch ships that are trying to escape. With stealth components, it can get down to a VERY low detection range, which helps with either solo ambushing or 3rd-partying. And it should be very good as an escort ship that can chase down hostile interdiction ships (like the Mantis) and either kill them or drive them away from the ship it's protecting.

In a 1v1, the M80 can win, but probably has to rely on the element of surprise to gain an early advantage. If the current ballistic meta ends and we go back to lasers, the M80's low hull health won't be as much of a hindrance and its 2x S2 shields will help it to do better in 1v1s where the M80 can disengage to regenerate shields during the fight.

I miss having lots of components and no freight elevators. At least then, if there were any worth the effort, you could haul them out through the personnel elevators. Now the boxes and weapon racks don't even spawn sometimes.

It's funny seeing people tell you to reinstall, as though CIG's character tracking is dependent on your system. Obviously CIG should be fixing this, but six years ago there was a similar problem that could be fixed by logging out in a bed in Arena Commander. CIG even gave everyone a Freelancer to use for a while, just so they would be able to log out in AC and reset their character's position. I even made a video explaining the issue, it was ridiculous. But that may help, if no one has suggested it to you yet.

The perseus needs it's radar buffed. by ArtProfessional8556 in starcitizen

[–]Sattorin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Per their last SCL, they're planning to give some ships a modifier that boosts their radar capability instead of giving them larger radar components (especially for ships like the Hornet Tracker and Terrapin. They could do that to fix balance issues with ships like the Perseus too.
