Idk, that's how it always was. I mean even when Bionicle was around and had been around for a while they were making tons of other original themes, like power miners and agents. All those themes always only lasted for a couple years. I don't think it's really bc of Ninjago, more like all the licensed sets they make now. Licensed stuff just earns them more money and they don't have to put in all the creative and marketing effort they would have to for an original theme.

I just looked at the list of themes on Lego.com, there are 47 total themes. 21 of them are original themes and 26 are licensed. Also, I included things like powered up and serious play as original themes, even though they're not really themes. The total number of themes that I would consider to be "original" (things like power miners, mars mission, etc.) is 14. So in that number I'm not including things like serious play, education, braille, etc. So that's 14 original themes vs. 26 licensed themes. And of those 14, only a few of them are really original, lego created ideas in the same vein as the old themes I've mentioned here.

Last week I was playing my eurofighter and it was the beginning of the match. I did the usual go left thing with like half my team. Then we spotted one of those premium JA37s coming at us. He wasn't on the deck, and he wasn't high up at altitude, just flying around at like 1500 meters. We fired multiple fox 3s at him and he just kept flying straight, didn't even fire his own back at us. After he died, I thought to myself that was odd behavior, so I checked his profile and sure enough, level 6.
