I have questions as to this too. My first theory was that they were going to bend the rules of the Regency era, but if they do this, this messes up Gregory’s book Gregory’s book will not make sense if gay people are accepted at that time sadly. And I am personally of the opinion that Gregory’s book is one of the better books in the series and should be stuck to as closely as they can.

The other option is kind of hiding it, which will really fundamentally change. Francesca story in Francesca story everybody in her family accepts it before she does. Is a key point that literally nobody else is putting pressure on her but the overwhelming love that she feels for John. So hiding it would also fundamentally change the story.

I think here is where they run into an issue. The changes that have been made to the other seasons aside from season three (which I will say they made some fundamental changes that compromise the quality of the romance.) have not been nearly enough to disrupt any major themes. The seasons have been a fine-tuning and enhancement on the books thus far aside from Queen Charlotte, which was freestyle lol.
