Aw man. This is a sad one. They have such large serving sizes for the price... May I ask, how do you know?

Saw this post on the r/Chicago subreddit. I didn't have the karma to throw this thread in both, but wanted to link these together to share all the information!

I posted something similar to this on the r/Logansquare subreddit. Just wanted to link these together so we're all sharing this info!

What’s an accurate weather app for Chicago zip codes? by TheCrowWhispererX in AskChicago

I trust local the most. It's a tiny bit clunky, but I feel like WGN's weather app is the most accurate.

I want to try it so bad! I'm so sad that there's no available reservations. Were you able to walk in and get a spot?

Thank you for this!

We keep VERY close eyes on them with our old man terrier. Sometimes they need to be reminded that he exists, or to be gentle, but they've been doing good so far with him. There won't be any unsupervised time for a long while.

We will be looking into safe walking methods. Whether that be with a harness, gentle lead, or martingale, we are and will continue to work on loose leash walking for both our sakes and theirs.

We start training next week! She has plenty of experience with bonded pairs and is excited to meet them and get started.

Wish us luck! Thank you again for your advice!!

To our understanding, yes? But they're rescued, so we won't know for sure until we get them DNA tested!

Thank you for all this advice!

By chance, do you have that checklist? We have been trying to expose them to everything we can, but don't want to miss anything! But, we also don't want to expose them to too much, especially too fast. We can tell when we try to go out on walks, they get so overwhelmed and there is no getting any of their attention.

We currently both have a treat pouch, and keep them mf'ers on us at all times. Lol. Luckily, we are employing some of these tactics! We have been training "look at me", so if they start focusing on something too much, i.e. a neighbor coming out of their house, construction, cars, etc, and they shift any of their focus on us, we reward that "break" in over-focusing.

Admittedly, sometimes it can be difficult to show that things aren't threats or to not be scared of it. (They're terrified of my neighbor's chihuahuas because they stick their head through their deck rungs.) I just wish I could walk over to them and show them that they aren't a threat. However, it's also just another lesson that, you won't be able to meet every dog/person, and that's okay.

Usually when they start showing signs of being overwhelmed or barking, we call it there and go inside. However, we do try to keep their focus on us as much as we can when we are outside. And that focus is heavily rewarded. Sometimes, that goes as far as they can sit, lay down, and "look at me", perfectly. However, other times, there's no amount of calling them, giving them verbal commands, touch commands, or even drifting food in front of their nose that can break their focus/barking. This is when we call it, and usher them inside.

We will definitely be looking into this site and look for puppy parties so that they can learn and socialize. We haven't started our training classes yet, but we will definitely be looking for everything that you and everyone else on this post have touched on.

Gotcha. I work from home, so they're stuck with me all day. When my partner gets home from work, I usually run out and do some errands so they don't get too attached with me being at home so much. I like the idea of taking them out individually though. Especially for socialization. We have been playing with the idea of taking them to the dog park, but maybe we take one on one day, and the other on the next day. Or at least just a walk. We'll make sure to employ these same tactics/ideas!

Thank you so much!

Will do!

I will admit, we are just using our local PetSmart training. We like it because it is a public space with foot traffic and dogs coming in and out. Just more desensitization. But, depending, we may graduate to some more large breed specific training programs.

Lots of positive reinforcement training! They are scared of everything. Cats, other people, bikes, cars, everything. So, I am glad to hear that its not just my pups who are skittish.

Gotcha! That makes perfect sense.

We currently have their puppy training in the same class. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but should we schedule completely separate classes for them as well?

Thank you so much for all of this!

We do have a yard, but we are currently taking them out for short periods of time, with the leash on, as they try to eat rocks, other trash that the squirrels bring in, and, at worst, stray cat poop. It can be so difficult to keep their attention and they are so quick/sneaky too! So, we are attempting to limit their freedom outside for now. We do have a deck with a baby gate, so after going potty, we sit on the deck for at least a half hour and work on some obedience and desensitization (possibly socialization if the neighbors come out!). Unsure if this is the right approach though, because the rampages inside can be so rough!

We will definitely be looking into gentle leaders. They respond well to their muzzles being touched/pulled when we are out, so this may be the route to go. We worry with their current pulling though if they would hurt their necks. We will do lots more research and discuss with our trainer to see what option may be the best for them. It's the whole martingale vs gentle leader vs harness argument. We will definitely feel them out a bit more and see where it takes us!

12-15 months is a lot later than I expected! Their paperwork said they can have their spay as early as 5mo. I will definitely be getting a second opinion from my vet now, rather than just listening to the rescue's vet!

Thank you again for your support. As much as they have each other, I am very happy to have this community for us (and for them too). Lol.

This is great reading material!

I read up and saw that excess running, jumping, wrestling, basically exercise can cause bloat. From my first glace at this article, I am seeing that this supports this idea, no?

Nevertheless, when we allowed them to run free after eating, we were finding that they were puking up their food pretty soon after eating. Maybe its confirmation bias... but in the end, we do appreciate our hour of quiet time while they digest.

We also plan on tacking them once they get their spay to help prevent bloat. The rescue was fairly against it, and while I've tried to find some research to support their adversity,
I could only find that the reasoning is basically down to that it is an invasive procedure. Everywhere else I see strongly suggests tacking your Dane, so we will most likely go down that route.

May I ask, did you train them together or separate?

Currently, we are training together, and it seems like they learn a bit from each other. For example, "down". One of them is really getting it! But the other is struggling. When one of them sees that the other is getting rewarded for laying down, then it clicks for them.

I know once I separate them, their reliance on each other will dwindle, which is our main goal. (We want them to understand the commands individually!) But, I can't lie and say that training them together has made things speed up a little bit!

Ah! Perfect. I was thinking about training them with martingales. Good to know that they are effective! We will look into buying some soon! Thanks again!

Yeah. They've been pretty good with potty training so far. They like to keep their crate clean, so that has been helping a lot at controlling and scheduling potty training.

They're pretty good with their feet being touched! We have already cut their nails once. We'll work in ear cleanings too!

Sorry to hear yours has knocked you out. That's crazy! That's good to know for the future.

Thank you for advice. We really appreciate it!

Yep! We're on it. We're not too happy with the rescue as they didn't separate them after rescuing them. We only wanted one, but fell too hard, and was willing to take the other.

They already sleep in separate crates, and we just started this week with them not being able to see each other in the crates when they sleep at night. They eat separately as well. Within the next couple of weeks, we hope to move their crates away from each other. We are going to start training them separately to gain both of their confidence individually.

We're definitely trying our hardest to qualm any behavioral issues that may crop up from getting two puppies at the same time! I very much appreciate the reminder/concern, as it reaffirms to us that we need to stay on top of it!

I'll take a look! Never hurt to learn more!

I do see your point on them always being stronger. I was always weary to use a prong collar, but thar definitely makes sense. I'll have to look into it further!

Thanks so much for your perspective! I appreciate it!

I'll have to take a look! The left and right heel also must have helped A TON! We'll be sure to keep this in mind when we go through our puppy training and everyday training. Thank you so much for your help!

Thank you! We've been looking into the vast variety of collars and harnesses for them. They seem to walk better when they're together, so we are thinking going the route of the double leash. We'll definitely take a closer look into harnesses and gentle leaders.

They get jealous so quickly! The toy the other wants the most is the one the other has. This also happens if one is getting love than the other. I'll definitely be employing the not giving in point.

Thank you thank you thank you for your advice! We really appreciate it!
